The Ministry of Health is seeking a self-motivated, service oriented, team player with strong organizational and interpersonal skills to join the Corporate Financial Services Unit of the Financial Services Branch. Reporting to the Supervisor, the successful candidate will provide financial support services including budget development, forecast preparation and analysis to a number of branches within the Ministry, as well as expertise and guidance to ensure proper financial and administrative process, procedures and policies are in place and working. The candidate will also develop and document status quo budget requirements for branches within the Ministry, provide assistance in the development of budget business cases, and develop performance and accountability measures for budget requests.
The candidate of choice will:
- have public sector budgeting, financial management, and government decision-making processes;
- have strong spreadsheet skills and be able to accurately manipulate data using features such as pivot tables, formulas, importing, exporting and various formatting functions;
- have sound knowledge of financial and business practices such as public sector accounting and auditing guidelines;
- be thorough, conscientious and attentive to detail to ensure accuracy and provide quality service;
- be flexible and a collaborative team player who is able to work effectively with management and staff;
- have strong analytical and problem solving skills to analyze and interpret financial data and determine the operational implications of financial changes; and
- be an excellent communicator who can support decisions with comprehensive written documents that clearly explain technical and financial material.
The skills and knowledge for this position are typically obtained through a university degree in business or commerce (with at least one university-level communications course), supplemented by additional professional classes in accounting, training in software packages and related public sector experience.
