Job Description: Position Purpose summary: The Soup Van Driver provides assistance to the Program Services Director through mobile feeding services provided by Thunder Bay Journey to Life Centre’s, Community & Residential Services in supporting individuals and families who are seeking assistance. RESPONSIBILITIES Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below. Vehicle: Capable of driving vehicles including either 3- and 5-ton commercial vehicles as well as cube vans or panel vans. Prior to departure complete daily circle check report also throughout day inspect vehicle for defects and maintain fuel and fluids etc. Maintain daily CVOR log as per regulation. Load and operate vehicle as per the ministry of transportation regulations. Maintain a clean drivers abstract and clean driving record (report any changes). Inform supervisor of any driving or vehicle infractions. Customers and Donors: Maintain a presentable appearance with clear Salvation Army logo insignia visible. Present a friendly and cooperative demeanor in line with salvation army standards. Distribution Centre: May be required to operate a fork-lift/hand cart to load, unload or move food, toys, other items within the centre. Build or assist in the building of skids for delivery. Accurately count product being delivered. Other related warehouse duties as assigned. Organizational: Prepare and submit any paperwork in a timely manner as required. Maintain a clean and safe work environment (vehicle, warehouse, and yard). Provide any daily communication of service comments from ministry units, suppliers, or other contacts. Adhere to The Salvation Army policy and procedure. Health & Safety Responsibilities Ensures warehouse safety policies and practices align with WSIB, MOL, TSA, and all other applicable requirements. Responsible to work within compliance with the provincial Occupational Health and safety act. Responsible to report any infractions or problems in accordance with policy and procedure. Assist in ensuring that all new employees and volunteers are made aware of emergency. procedure and are prepared to implement them immediately as necessary. Wear appropriate safety equipment as needed. Perform other position-related duties as required. RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIAL AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES Considerable material responsibility. Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines. Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities. May use a fuel credit card for fueling purposes only. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Conduct routine interactions. Clarify information. Governance Boards and Councils: None. Internal: Staff, management, volunteers, clients. External: Donors, community. MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY: This position reports directly to the Program Services Director or designate. Supporting and training as needed any new Driver II and III. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a casual position with no guarantee of hours. May be exposed to various temperatures and outdoor conditions (freezer). Generally exposed to occasional periods of physical strain. Require ability to apply physical force to move/lift/transport materials up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of regular business hours or at alternate locations on occasion. Some day or short-term travel may be required. The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of High School Diploma Have current First Aid/CPR Certification Have current Safe Food Handling Certification Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements A minimum of 1 year of safe driving experience. Valid full Driver’s License for the province; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. In some cases, a current forklift operators’ certificate may be required. Strong navigation skills. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered. Skills and Capabilities: Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Have current First Aid/CPR Certification Have current Safe Food Handling Certification Available to work evening shifts including weekends Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate). Demonstrated safe driving practices. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Professional, service-oriented approach internally and externally. Exceptional organizational, prioritizing and time management skills. Self-motivated and disciplined self-starter. Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution. Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation. Participate in mandatory orientation training including on-line abuse prevention certification. Able to adopt a flexible work schedule during peak and/or seasonal times. Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism. Ability to understand and adhere to the Code of Ethics. Able to work in a consultative, diplomatic and tactful manner. Organizational and time-management skills to plan and manage the workload. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $20.09 to $25.11 with a maximum of $30.13. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
