About the role

General Manager, Medicine Hat

Ronald McDonald House ® Alberta is passionate about providing a home away from home for families with seriously ill or injured children who must travel for medical care.

We know that a family with a sick child is a sick family. A Ronald McDonald House ® provides a warm, compassionate and comfortable environment where families can share experiences, receive respite and distraction, eat a warm homemade meal and rest, all while caring for their child at the hospital next door.

Ronald McDonald House ® Alberta is part of a global network of Houses, Family Rooms, Care Mobiles and Comfort Carts prioritizing family-centered care through delivery of our unique core programs. Ronald McDonald House ® Alberta operates four Houses offering private family suites, and Comfort Carts that deliver bedside services in hospital.

We are currently engaged in a multi-year, $80M capital campaign to reduce the service gap by tripling our capacity in Calgary and Edmonton. Construction on an expanded facility in Calgary completed in May 2025, increasing the number of suites from 27 to 91. The expanded Calgary facility is 105,000 square feet, offering family suites and a multitude of common areas that enhance the family experience within our communal living environment. Tentatively Edmonton will expand from 36 suites to approximately 100 suites. The expansion critical path in its entirety is 5-7 years.

“I love working at Ronald McDonald House Alberta as we ensure our doors are always open, our lights are on and there is always a smiling face waiting for families with a sick or injured child when they arrive at one of our Houses. We try and think of all the many ways we can support families so they can concentrate on their child. I love being part of team that makes this possible. ~ Sarah, Ronald McDonald House Alberta employee since 2019

About Ronald McDonald House Alberta

Non-profit Organizations
51-200

Ronald McDonald House® Alberta supports families seeking vital medical treatment for their seriously sick or injured child. Our warm, compassionate Houses provide a home-away-from-home for families who need to travel for medical reasons. When those families are experiencing one of life’s most difficult times, we offer them the gift of togetherness.

Since the first Houses were built in Alberta in 1985, we have supported tens of thousands of families. Every year, thousands will stay at one of Alberta’s Ronald McDonald Houses. These stays can last up to a few nights, or as long as several weeks or months at a time.

Each Ronald McDonald House has private family suites for families to rest. The Houses have open kitchens where families can sit down and share experiences over a homemade meal. The sense of community enables families to rely on each other and shore up strength.

Almost 70% of Canadian families live outside of a community with a children’s hospital, meaning they will need to travel to access medical care. Ronald McDonald Houses save families millions of dollars each year on accommodation, transportation, meals, laundry, parking, and more. Having a Ronald McDonald House close to a hospital in Alberta is an important part of family-centred care.

Ronald McDonald House Alberta serves families largely from across the province, from almost 300 Albertan communities. From Wood Buffalo to Lethbridge, and Grande Prairie to Lloydminster, families come from all corners and corridors of Alberta to stay at a Ronald McDonald House.
