Position Overview: Reporting to the Child and Youth Coordinator at the Town of Canmore, Day Camp Counsellors are responsible to deliver safe, fun, and memorable day camp experiences for participants. As a member of the Recreation Department, a counsellor will be responsible to plan and implement program itineraries which provide meaningful and age-appropriate activities for children and youth in our community. The number one priority will be the supervision, enjoyment, and safety of program participants. The Day Camp Counsellors are committed to helping the community connect, build friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime. This position is for someone who is friendly, confident, and a team player, with a proven dedication to providing exceptional care and programming for youth.
Core Accountabilities:
- Is generally knowledgeable about the Town of Canmore services and is able to respond to inquiries about recreation facility building hours and other age-appropriate recreation opportunities
- With direction and guidance from the Child and Youth Coordinator develops and facilitates camp activities, games and crafts
- Follows established departmental standard operating procedures
- Punctuality and promptness are paramount to support the program’s success
- Take daily attendance and maintain accurate and confidential Participant Information Forms
- Anticipates sensitive issues and plans an appropriate strategy
- Able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions & outdoor pursuit
Education & Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in a related field such as education, outdoor pursuits or recreation or a minimum of one-year child care, day camp or relevant experience. - preferred
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification, including AED – required
Abilities & Experience:

2 years of related experience in childcare, day camp or relevant experience – preferred

Strong oral and written communication in English – required

Ability to participate in day camp related activities (e.g. swimming, hiking) – required

Ability to be flexible and versatile in changing circumstances (e.g. weather, behavior) – required
-
Ability to work cooperatively with other counsellors, support staff, and parents. – required
Term & Work Schedule: This is a full - time temporary seasonal position (40 hours), leading camps during the Canmore Family Week break from February 17****th to February 20th, 2026. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM. Training date will be February 13th, 2026. The starting wage rate is $21.68.
