Provincial Protective Service (PPS) Branch is a centralized point of command, allowing different enforcement and security services to work as one team to respond to public safety and concerns. PPS unites Conservation, Highway Patrol, and Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Officers, Prisoner Transport and Court Security Deputy Sheriffs, and Wascana Park Community and Safety Officers and aligns Provincial Protective Services under a single organizational structure.
The Ministry of Community Safety is seeking a highly motivated team player to be our Provincial Protective Services (PPS) Branch Law Enforcement Technology Specialist. Reporting to the Law Enforcement Technology Supervisor, you will be part of a team providing specialized IT services and support for provincial law enforcement teams.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and innovative professional with extensive experience in IT support.
In this position, you will:
Core IT Support Responsibilities
- Support the Provincial Protective Services Branch and their specialized IT needs across all field and office environments.
- Provide tier‑1 (walk‑through) and tier‑2 (remote log‑in) troubleshooting support for all law enforcement hardware, software, mobile devices, connectivity systems, and field‑deployed technologies.
- Act as the Database Administrator for multiple systems and coordinate all provincial service requests, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues.
- Implement, support, train, and monitor new software versions, upgrades, enhancements, and system rollouts.
- Coordinate with partner agencies and stakeholders including SGI, PECC, SPSA, ITD, and external vendors to ensure system integration, compliance, and operational reliability.
- Assist with long‑term strategic and operational IT planning, including assessing system needs, identifying technology gaps, and recommending improvements.
- Provide complete project management for technology initiatives including research, proposal development, field demonstrations, testing, evaluation, implementation, and reporting.
- Assist with developing policies, procedures, technical documentation, training materials, and operational support processes.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with law enforcement agencies, external partners, and technical stakeholders.
- Configure, support, and troubleshoot data connection solutions to main record management software, dispatch software and officer safety.
- Provide support for Microsoft Office 365 applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams, as well as SharePoint Online including file access, syncing problems, permissions, and shared library workflows.
- Support in car and Body Worn Camera (BWC) technology to maintain calibration, storage, and system diagnostics.
- Assist with evidence management workflows to ensure accurate metadata, successful uploads, retention compliance, storage integrity, and reliable playback for investigative and court purposes.
GIS, Mapping, and Data Analytics Responsibilities
- Create and maintain geospatial datasets.
- Produce operational maps, hotspot analysis, and trend analysis to support informed decision making for management.
- Perform data cleaning, validation, and preparation using Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, Power Query) and Python (pandas and data transformation).
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
Previous experience and knowledge of the following software programs, technologies and certifications is considered an asset:
- Versaterm Records Management Software (RMS)
- Autovu Patroller
- Computer Aided Dispatch software (MPS and MR)
- Panasonic CF33 Toughbooks
- ArcGIS Pro and GeoMedia
- In car and Body Worn Camera (BWC) equipment
- Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) systems
- Microsoft Power BI (data analytics and reporting)
- Modem Cloud management (NetCloud and AirVantage)
- Administration of various Microsoft products.
Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through a degree in Computer Science or Data Science supplemented with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain enhanced fingerprint clearance. This check is a more in‑depth level of clearance than a normal criminal record check.
