Scheduler 1
Number of positions: 3 Job Location: Edmonds 15
Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 78,000.00 - 84,100.00
What you'll do
- Creates and maintains resource-loaded schedules in accordance with Schedule Management procedures (including
Schedule Basis) for interrelated work packages for assigned capital and OMA projects managed by Project Delivery using
information provided by Work Package Managers (WPM)/Project Managers (PM) by first meeting with the WPM/PM to
discuss, shape and record work package information such as activities, resources and relationships in terms and detail
sufficient to satisfy the requirements and parameters of the resource-loaded cost scheduling tools and Project Management
practices, Scheduling procedures and guidelines. Follows established business processes and reference tools. Guides the
PM and WPM in understanding scheduling-related terminology, definitions, sequencing, dependencies and appropriate
level of detail and resources. Ensures PM and WPM considers and endorses the optimum number of activities and most
appropriate levels of detail.
- Working within the resource-loaded cost scheduling tools decomposes work packages to detailed network activities with
start and end dates and other scheduling data as established with Work Package Manager. Loads network activities with all
labour, materials and equipment costs. Synchronizes details with the financial system (SAP). Investigates issues and fixes
the problem in Primavera if synchronization is not successful. Monitors and highlights changes to schedule and brings
recommendations to the WPM and PM to ensure milestone and scorecard targets are met. Creates performance
measurement baseline and ensures it matches the Statement of Objective (SOO) and Expenditure Authorization Request
(EAR). Ensures the schedule meets the QA standards according to the PPM practices by reviewing against the QA layouts
in P6. Flags exceptions for consideration by the Scheduling Team Lead during QC review.
- Assigns appropriate work centre(s) for each activity identified through discussion with WPM; reviews and ensures the
assignment is appropriate and reasonable; if not, identifies issues and makes recommendations to PM/WPM and adjusts as
appropriate.
- Performs monthly activity progressions against performance measurements, such as those related to cost, schedule and
earned value. Investigates instances where performance appears to be off-track, and ensures any identified errors in
processing, record-keeping or systems are addressed and that corrections and adjustments are made in Primavera, SAP
and other project records in order to accurately reflect project status. Discusses areas of concern with WPM and involves
PM and/or Scheduling Team Lead in the discussion of issues such as significant scheduling changes as the incumbent
deems appropriate. Adjusts schedules respecting cost over-runs, project deviations and delays as a result of WPM’s input
and with approval of PM. Synchronizes details with SAP.
- Uses cost and schedule variance reports to identify variances against various baselines. Discusses with WPM and PM to
determine if change notices are required.
- Meets on-going informational needs of WPM/PM by generating reports and summaries from the resource-loaded cost
scheduling tools and providing background information necessary for WPM/PM to address outstanding issues and areas of
concern. Also reviews and confirms project invoices prior to managerial sign-off.
- Provides information in response to ad hoc requests for information from the project team and other internal departments.
Files and retrieves schedule-related documents in accordance with PPM practices for project document management.
- Provides technical advice and guidance to users regarding the operation and functionality of the resource-loaded cost
scheduling tools. May participate as a user representative in the development, testing and implementation of upgrades that
impact schedule practices.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
What you bring
- Degree in a related field such as Business, Engineering, Science; plus four (4) years of related project delivery experience
in a similar environment where two (2) years of scheduling experience has been gained; OR
- Diploma of Technology in a related field such as Business, Engineering, Science; plus five (5) years of related project
delivery experience in a similar environment where two (2) years of scheduling experience has been gained.
- A professional designation in project management or scheduling (such as PMP, PMI-SP or AACE PSP) considered an
asset.
