A Career With Higher Purpose

Are you ready to use your technology career to make a difference — the kind of

difference you can see, feel, and be proud of in your own community?

The City of Fredericton is looking for a curious, driven, and community-minded

IT Business Systems Analyst to join our Information Technology team, with a dedicated focus on the technology that keeps our community safe. In this role, you'll be the go-to systems analyst behind the tools our Fredericton Police Force officers, 911 dispatchers, and public safety partners rely on every day — from the moment a call for help comes in, to the officer arriving on scene, to the evidence that supports justice in our courts.

This is not a "keep the lights on" job. This is a role where the systems you

support directly enable officer safety, public safety, and community trust. If you've ever wanted your day-to-day work to matter beyond a screen, this is that opportunity.

The right person for this role will feel a personal pull toward work that

contributes to something bigger than themselves. They will take ownership of the systems in their care, bring positivity, curiosity, and determination to complex problems. They will handle sensitive information and confidential environments with maturity and discretion and enjoy learning because the public safety technology landscape is always evolving, and so will you.

Qualifications

We recognize that candidates bring diverse experiences and backgrounds.

Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how their qualifications meet the

essential requirements of the position. Additional valued qualifications may strengthen an application but are not required.

Essential

To be considered for this position, applicants must demonstrate the following

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience as a Systems Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, or similar role involving business application administration, implementation, and support.
  • Security Clearance.
  • Candidates from outside the Fredericton Police Force are required to undergo comprehensive enhanced screening to determine security clearance eligibility, which may include, but is not limited to:
  • Comprehensive background and Reference checks.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered

where they provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties of the position. Applicants are encouraged to describe how their background aligns with the requirements of the role.

Valued

The following qualifications are not required but may strengthen an

application:

  • Direct experience with Versaterm CAD/RMS, Axon Evidence.com, Milestone VMS, Idemia identification systems, or other public safety technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement or emergency services IT environments.
  • Understanding of NPSNet, NPIS, CPIC, or PIMITS multi-agency service models.
  • Experience with secure remote access, PKI smartcards, and mobile device management in high-security environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service management practices.
  • Municipal or public-sector IT experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts and a disciplined, methodical approach to solving complex, multi-system problems.
  • Confidence working with vendors, business owners, and end users — and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • A commitment to careful documentation, secure practices, and change control.
  • A collaborative, service-oriented mindset that fits our team culture: Integrity, Professionalism, Teamwork, Respect, and Work Ethic.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain enhanced police clearance suitable for access to CPIC and national policing information systems.

We don't expect applicants to walk in the door already knowing every police

system. What we're looking for is someone with strong systems analyst fundamentals, genuine curiosity about the mission, and the personal drive to become excellent at supporting the technology that keeps our community safe. If you're that person, we'll invest in you.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the technology behind public safety. You'll administer, configure, and maintain the core systems used by the Fredericton Police Force — including computer-aided dispatch (CAD), records management (RMS), mobile data terminals in police vehicles, digital evidence platforms, identification systems, and court disclosure tools.
  • Keep dispatch and 911 systems reliable. You'll work closely with Public Safety Communications to support the systems behind 911 call-taking, dispatch operations, and voice recording — where reliability is measured not in service tickets, but in seconds that matter.
  • Steward secure, compliant integrations. You'll help maintain our connections to national and provincial policing systems (CPIC, PIP, NPSNet, PIMITS), ensuring the City meets the security, audit, and compliance obligations that protect our data and our partners.
  • Deliver meaningful projects. You'll play a key role in upcoming initiatives such as records management upgrades, mobile terminal refreshes, digital evidence enhancements, and Major Case Management implementation.
  • Partner with our people. You'll work side-by-side with police operational leaders, dispatch supervisors, IT teammates, and trusted vendors — building the kind of relationships that make good technology great.
  • Grow with a supportive team. You'll be part of a collaborative IT team that values learning, mentorship, and the pursuit of doing meaningful work well.

Working Conditions

  • Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., based at Sutton House (335 Queen Street), with periodic on-site work at Fredericton Police Headquarters and other City facilities.
  • Occasional after-hours (evenings/weekends) support may be required for planned maintenance, upgrades, or incident response.
