This position works in the Community Art Programs organizational unit. This is cultural programming and supervisory work involved in researching and assessing community needs and interests, and in designing, developing, coordinating and scheduling community public art programs or projects in the area of Public Art city-wide. A Coordinator – Recreation Programs (Community Arts), under limited direction, is also responsible for the implementation, supervision and evaluation of the programs and for the recruiting, hiring, training, development and supervision of program staff subordinates. In addition, the work involves establishing and maintaining liaison with cultural communities, organizations and agencies, schools, and the general public; publicizing and promoting services and programs; assisting in the implementation of temporary or permanent public art initiatives as required; prepares recommendations for preliminary budgets and monitors expenditures; and processing a variety of clerical and routine administrative duties. Considerable independence of judgement, action and initiative is exercised in the performance of assigned duties, within the limits of applicable policies and procedures. Unusual problems or policy matters are referred to a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of attainment of desired goals and objectives. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of a two year Community College program in Community Recreation or a related discipline such as Fine Art, plus sound related supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of principles and practice of organized community art such as art creation, fabrication methods and/or materials, and community facilitation. Ability to supervise, implement and evaluate the provision of community public art projects to meet community needs and interests such as public interest group meetings and graphic presentations. Ability to read engineering, architectural and landscape plans to support new built forms. Ability to hire, plan, assign and supervise the work of program staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships with various internal and externals contacts such as staff, community groups and agencies, the public and various other contacts in the area served, and to develop community interest and involvement in programs or projects. An incumbent will have the ability to prepare and maintain records, reports and correspondence such as project plans and promotional material. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Shifts may vary between the hours of 8:00am-6:00pm including occasional evenings and weekend
