About the Role
The Women’s Outreach/Community Based Victim Services worker provides direct services to women and trans individuals at risk of violence, and adult and child survivors of family and sexual violence. This includes emotional support, referrals, advocacy, safety planning, justice system navigation, and transportation, while coordinating with other providers to promote violence prevention and community education. The role also covers direct service within the Community Based Victim Services program. This position reports to the Lead of Community-Based Victim Services.
What You’ll Do**:**
- Women’s Outreach:
Supports women and their dependent children who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing violence, abuse, or threats. Services include emotional support, safety planning, life skills development, resource referrals, and transportation related to program services. - Community-Based Victim Services:
Supports clients impacted by relationship violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, elder abuse, and family violence. Emphasis is placed on helping clients understand the dynamics and impact of abuse, navigating the justice system, and legal advocacy.- Provide trauma-informed, feminist, anti-oppressive, and culturally competent support services.
- Assist clients in navigating the Family Justice system, including family court accompaniment, legal aid applications, and court document preparation.
- Develop and implement individualized safety plans for clients and their children.
- Offer information and support on communication, problem-solving, and risk reduction.
- Build and maintain strong interagency relationships with community partners (e.g., transition houses, shíshálh Nation, RCMP, MCFD, legal services).
- Respond to calls on the Outreach Line, offering emotional support, debriefing, and practical assistance.
- Participate in case coordination and interagency meetings as directed.
- Maintain accurate documentation, statistics, files, and communication logs.
- Support the development and implementation of educational and violence prevention initiatives.
- Assist with reporting, evaluations, and data collection under the direction of the Supervisor.
- Provide program coverage in the Supervisor’s absence and support a learning environment for students and volunteers.
- Engage in organization-wide initiatives and ensure ongoing compliance with CARF standards and SCCSS policies and values.
- Actively work to reduce service barriers and support equity, access, and inclusion in all program areas.
What You Bring
-
- A post-secondary degree in social sciences and at least two years of related experience supporting survivors of violence, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong understanding of the BC Family Relations Act and relevant local, provincial, and federal legislation.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively and non-judgmentally with diverse populations, including different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- A feminist and trauma-informed approach to supporting women, children, trans, and marginalized individuals affected by violence.
- Deep knowledge of the systemic and structural factors contributing to gender-based violence and the impacts of colonization, including Residential Schools, on Indigenous communities.
- Familiarity with the non-profit sector and experience with collaborative, community-based work.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage shifting priorities.
- Strong computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office; experience with Victim Services training is an asset.
- Experience supporting youth and male survivors of violence is considered an asset.
