Position Summary
The Adult Education Teacher is responsible for the delivery of culturally relevant and academically sound adult education programming for Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation members. The role combines instructional duties with program coordination and administrative responsibilities to ensure effective planning, implementation and evaluation of adult learning initiatives. The incumbent promotes life‐long learning, fosters student success, and contributes to a supportive, respectful learning environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching Duties

Deliver high quality, age and stage appropriate instruction to adult learners in accordance with curriculum standards and learner needs.

Provide physical, social, cognitive and emotional development opportunities for students.

Create a caring, stimulating and culturally safe learning environment.
-
Develop lesson plans, learning materials and classroom displays.
-
Assist special needs students and monitor student progress and attendance.
-
Liaise and collaborate with staff, Elders and community members to support student success.
-
Provide leadership and coordination for educational assistants and other support staff in the classroom.
-
Encourage student motivation and academic achievement through differentiated instruction.
-
Maintain proper classroom order and discipline in accordance with Sagamok Education policies.
Program Administration / Coordination

Assume a leadership role in the Waawaasnoode Adult Learning Centre (WALC) and work with staff, students, Elders and community to achieve program goals.
-
Participate on internal and external committees and strengthen linkages between WALC program offerings and student services.
-
Network with post‐secondary institutions, government and private sector representatives to develop productive relationships and support programming.
-
Research, develop, deliver and evaluate educational opportunities that meet labour market demands.
-
Facilitate academic curriculum development and implement innovative teaching methods and programs.
-
Assist with proposal development and secure funding for adult education programs; prepare reports for funding authorities as required.

Manage financial and administrative procedures in accordance with Sagamok Anishnawbek policies.

Maintain student data in organized systems and ensure confidentiality and program credibility.

Provide positive public relations on behalf of the WALC and the adult education program.

Ensure the learning facility is clean, welcoming and orderly.
Assessment / Evaluation
-
Develop fair, transparent, and culturally respectful methods of evaluating student achievement in alignment with curriculum standards and adult learner needs.

Design and administer a variety of assessment tools (e.g., tests, assignments, presentations, portfolios, experiential activities) to measure student learning.

Provide timely, constructive, and individualized feedback to support student progress and motivation.

Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and progression, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
-
Prepare progress reports, transcripts, and evaluations as required by Sagamok Anishnawbek Education policies and funding agencies.
-
Identify learning gaps and implement intervention strategies or provide referrals to appropriate supports.
-
Ensure grading practices recognize both academic achievement and personal growth, incorporating cultural learning outcomes where appropriate.

Engage students in self‐assessment and goal setting to promote accountability and life‐long learning skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education and valid Ontario College of Teachers certification/registration (or equivalent adult education qualification).
- Experience teaching adult learners and coordinating educational programs.
- Knowledge of Sagamok Anishnawbek culture, traditions, language and history.
- Ability to develop curriculum and implement culturally relevant programming.
- Strong communication, teamwork, planning and organizational skills.
- Proficient with administrative duties including data management and proposal/report preparation.

Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Is subject to six months’ probation.

Clear Criminal Records Check (CPIC) that is valid within 6 months.

Valid driver’s license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
Work Site Location
The work will primarily take place at the Waawaasnoode Adult Learning Centre located in the Sagamok Anishnawbek community. The incumbent must be adaptable to a variety of environments including classroom, administrative settings and community-based learning spaces. The position is subject to a six-month probation period.
