About the role
The Centre for Health Informatics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Senior Project Coordinator. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Clinical Research Unit in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary provides research and analytical data support services to faculty researchers and their collaborators. The Senior Project Coordinator will coordinate the end-to-end implementation of projects related to health data methods and analytics, electronic data capture platforms for clinical research projects, and development of custom data solutions for researchers. This position reports to the Associate Director, Strategy and Operations in the Centre for Health Informatics. There will be peak periods during the year that are stressful due to overlapping deadlines and shifting priorities.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
IT Project Management and Administration
- Responsible for the coordination and implementation of research platform development projects, including clinical trial data management systems (e.g., REDCap Cloud) and electronic data capture solutions (e.g., REDCap)
- Develop project timelines, monitor and control of project deadlines and outcomes, and closeout of projects to ensure client and project success
- Planning, organizing, and directing project implementation (e.g., by scoping, tracking, and managing requests for the development team); and collaborating with other internal and external resources as needed
- Developing budget estimates
Planning, Delivery, and Support
- Responsible for conducting intake meetings, develop project timelines, monitor project deadlines and outcomes, and be responsible for project closeout processes
- Organizes and attends meetings to discuss study plans and progress
- Accountable for identifying needs, securing commitments and monitoring progress of deliverable from internal and external service providers
- Accountable for ensuring technological solutions comply with architectural standards
- Provide study setup support in research platforms (e.g., REDCap Cloud, REDCap)
Client Liaison and Oversight of Research Project Activities
- Responsible for supporting the CRU's clients (i.e., Principal Investigators and their research teams) through the coordination and delivery of research software and platforms
- Work closely with Principal Investigators/researchers to understand project requirements, scope technical requirements, and coordinate delivery with internal CRU technical development team
- Reviewing research documentation (e.g., protocols and case report forms) to understand project needs and inform project implementation plans
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in health research, biological sciences, computer science, statistics, engineering or similar field of study
- Master's Degree in a related field is an asset
- Project management professional designation or SOCRA certification are an asset
- Minimum of 5 years related experience in managing/coordinating the delivery of clinical research projects or software delivery across multiple platforms
- Experience with clinical trials and trial management software (e.g., REDCap Cloud, REDCap)
- Experience in clinical research practice guidelines and compliance (Health Canada, FDA, ICH, GFP, 21 CFR Part 11)
- High degree of judgment, creativity, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to strategically manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities/deadlines
- Must be comfortable working within a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and will strive for the highest level of accuracy in all tasks and responsibilities
- Experience working with centralized project management systems (e.g., Jira) and documentation
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. Tri Council)
- Demonstrated proficiency in budgeting and resource planning
