About the role

CDW Relief – Facilities Management Custodial Support
We are seeking a Relief Custodian for our Sherwood Park programs. This position plays an important role in ensuring our facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for the individuals we support, our staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be reliable, detail-oriented, and flexible with scheduling to meet program needs.

Skills and Abilities

  • Competency in a variety of custodial and cleaning practices.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Experience in a high-volume/fast-paced environment with an excellent attendance record and strong commitment to deadlines.
  • Positive attitude and mature work ethic; able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills; comfortable interacting with a variety of people in a team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) an asset.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of custodial or janitorial experience in residential, commercial, or institutional settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe cleaning practices, equipment operation, and use of cleaning agents.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to Health and Safety practices and procedures; ensure all areas are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary condition.
  • Perform daily custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, window cleaning, restroom sanitation, and waste/recycling disposal.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and other consumables in restrooms and common areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and promptly report hazards or maintenance concerns.
  • Support light facility upkeep such as minor touch-up painting, moving furniture, or clearing snow/debris at entrances as required.
  • Ensure cleaning equipment is properly used, stored, and maintained in safe working order.
  • Receive direction upon arrival and confirm assigned tasks are completed prior to departure.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and professionalism when interacting with individuals with disabilities, staff, and visitors.
  • Take on additional custodial duties as requested by the Facility Manager or Director.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Understand and practice all RHA policies, procedures, and standards, including ethical guidelines, Accommodation Standards, Occupational Health & Safety, and CET Accreditation requirements.
  • Adhere to the RHA Code of Ethics and maintain professional conduct and appearance.
  • Meet personnel policy expectations for attendance, punctuality, and conflict resolution.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Promote safe environments by checking for and reporting hazards, and act promptly to reduce risks.
  • Remain awake, aware, and vigilant throughout shifts.
  • Meet the physical requirements of the role, such as standing, walking, lifting, bending, and repetitive motions.
  • Be available to work in any program area during staffing shortages, emergencies, or as needed to support program operations.
