As a Financial Reporting Specialist:

You will be a technical specialist that is accountable for the financial reporting of various items in Meridian Credit Union (“Meridian”) and its subsidiaries including Meridian OneCap Credit Corp (“OneCap”). This will include;

  • Completing components of the monthly and annual financial and regulatory reporting processes for Meridian and its subsidiaries;

  • Assisting in the maintenance of the Meridian its subsidiaries General Ledger (“GL”) and reporting integrity, including the internal control environment, over assigned accounting transactions including but not limited to the areas of provision for credit losses and financial instruments;

  • Providing ongoing development and maintenance of Financial Reporting processes and procedures for Meridian and its subsidiaries; and

  • Supporting the Financial Reporting team in meeting their objectives, recognizing that these objectives align and support the strategic objectives of the broader Financial Reporting team, Meridian’s Finance team and Meridian as a whole.

What you will do:

  • Complete assigned components of the month-end process including, but not limited to, the preparation and posting of journal entries, monthly schedules and reconciliations. Assigned components include but are not limited to the areas of provision for credit losses and financial instruments accounting.

  • Assist with the preparation of assigned regulatory filings to FSRA specifically as they pertain to provision for credit losses and financial instruments.

  • Prepare management reporting and commentary as it pertains to assigned transactions.

  • Assist with the preparation of Board and Committee reporting on a periodic basis.

  • Assist with the financial planning and forecasting process as it pertains to provision for credit losses and other assigned transactions.

  • Assist with statistical model development for IFRS 9 expected credit loss modelling.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of efficiency and control on processes for assigned transactions

  • Assist in the preparation of assigned notes to the year-end audited financial statements.

  • Assist in the successful execution of the year-end audit process by providing relevant support and documentation to external auditors.

How you will succeed:

  • University or College degree required in Finance & Accounting, or equivalent; working towards or completed Chartered Professional Accountant designation is an asset.

  • Experience in a financial reporting environment within a financial institution is desirable.

  • Technical and practical knowledge of IFRS.

  • Strong spreadsheet proficiency and familiarity with data query/analysis tools.

  • Understanding of financial modelling techniques.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience completing reconciliations.

  • Proven problem-solving abilities and the ability to implement solutions at an operational level.

  • Ability to multi-task, quickly prioritize and resolve critical issues as they arise.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Commitment to the organization by actively supporting the values and demonstrating alignment with the goals of the organization.

Salary Range: CAD $65,000 – $80,000 annually

Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range.
