About This Location:

Our Home Office is located in the heart of Bloor West Village in Toronto, just steps away from Jane Subway station. This position is a hybrid role where your time will be spent in office and working from home, based on operational requirements.

About This Role:

Under the supervision of the Manager, Investment Operations and following generally accepted accounting principles, Company policies and procedures and provincial legislation, the Trust Accountant maintains accounting ledgers for various funds, prepares various trust reports and calculates trust withdrawals.

Job Type: Full Time, Contract (18 months)

This is a current vacancy and we are actively seeking to fill the position.

Key Qualifications and Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Completion of a college diploma or equivalent in accounting.
  • 3+ years related accounting/bookkeeping experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical, mathematical, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills, vast knowledge of MS Office software and work experience with an accounting software package.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistently high level of accuracy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; verbal, written and presentation.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills with the ability to partner with all levels of the organization.
  • Exemplifies Arbor’s values of compassion, integrity, trust, teamwork and excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Reconciles monthly trust, annuity, bank and general ledger reconciliations and worksheets. Posts and verifies entries in the system and investigates and clears discrepancies.
  • Updates and verifies new sales and collections to trust reports on a monthly basis for assigned trust funds.
  • Calculates and distributes monthly income and capital gains / losses on trust reports for assigned trust funds.
  • Requests from trustees, withdrawal of trusted funds based on provincial guidelines, sends and reviews required documents, receives funds and applies credits to customer accounts.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries from cemetery and funeral branch personnel regarding cancellations and repurchases and calculates interest to be refunded, following provincial legislation and Company policies.
  • Assists with processing bi-weekly, weekly, bi-monthly and monthly collections for various trust funds.
  • Enters and verifies financial numbers on the monthly trust spreadsheets required by the Accounting and Analysis Department.
  • Assists with inquiries regarding cancellations, repurchases and deliveries and calculates interest to be refunded, following provincial legislation and Company policies.
  • Assists with quarter and year-end reporting.
  • Prepares and submits annual reports for assigned trust funds to Government agencies.
  • Provides support for all internal, external and regulatory audits related to assigned provinces.
  • Other duties as required.
