##Overview
The Enhanced Digital Field Technician supports the technical operations in combatting crime of all types. Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology, you will be responsible for handling and extracting data from electronic devices in a forensically sound manner and reports for investigations.
##Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining proper chain of custody of exhibits.
- Receiving, identifying and itemizing exhibits from investigators.
- Performing data extraction of electronic devices - including but not limited to - computers, mobile devices and electronic storage devices in a forensically sound manner.
- Filtering and disclosing extracted data according to the parameters of the search warrant and investigational requirements.
- Preparing and providing observation reports for criminal findings evidence.
- Remaining current in elements of offences, case law, legislation, policies and procedures.
- Attending crime scenes with police investigators to provide guidance on the seizure of a variety of technological devices and data.
- Providing investigational guidance to investigators, making recommendations and suggestions for follow-up according to "E' Division Digital Forensic Services (DFS) training and capabilities
- Appearing in court to present credible testimony about any work performed.
- Liaising with investigators.
- Updating and maintaining a variety of forensic equipment, tools and software.
- Managing intake requests from frontline and operational support units.
- Attending courses and "E" Division Digital Forensic Services training sessions.
- Relaying pertinent information related to digital evidence in the form of presentations.
- Assist other agencies/units when necessary in a digital evidence capacity.
##Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to exercise considerable concentration and attention to detail.
- Ability to properly prioritize workloads in time-critical and deadline situations.
- Ability to think critically and analyze.
- Ability to perform under pressure and in stressful conditions, such as those experienced during support of time-sensitive, high profile investigations, at a crime scene or when testifying in court.
- Experience in preparing and presenting training materials for all skill levels.
- Solid understanding of RCMP security policies and requirements would be an asset
- Solid understanding of the Criminal Code of Canada and Provincial and Federal Statutes is preferred
- Proficient keyboarding skills and demonstrated use and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to process highly confidential and sensitive material with discretion.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
##Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent and completion of a two-year program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management or in a related specialty.
- A minimum of 1 years’ experience in a related field is required.
- Digital Forensics Certification would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
