Load Forecasting & Stations Planning - Co-op

The Co-op Student would join our Load Forecasting & Stations Planning team based in Ajax with the placement to last up to 12-16 months (preferably 16 months).
Duties And Responsibilities
- Support engineers by preparing and organizing project materials such as drawings, cost estimates, and material lists for rehabilitation and construction projects.
- Support distribution engineering in performing power system studies such as load flows, short circuits, and protection coordination studies.
- Prepare technical reports on engineering topics such as power system capacity planning, load forecasting, system reliability performance, regional engagements, and meeting general meeting minutes.
- Collect inspection, maintenance, and failure data to support asset condition assessments and capital planning.
- Participate in regional planning meetings with Hydro One (HONI), Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), and municipal stakeholders.
- Help update and maintain demand and capacity forecast models using historical data and basic analytical tools.
- Support cost tracking efforts by updating spreadsheets and reporting tools. Assist in identifying discrepancies.
- Attend meetings with design, operations, and planning teams to observe and document discussions related to station and distribution upgrades and expansions.
- Collect and analyze transformer loading data, peak demand data and reliability data for stations and feeders.
SAFETY
- Must participate in safety training and be knowledgeable of Company safety rules and practices and must implement safe work procedures that ensure the safety of the Company employees and customers.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Understanding of advanced power system concepts and simulation tools
- Understanding of theoretical concepts of electrical distribution systems design and operations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.)
- Basic programming knowledge / working knowledge of databases
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Knowledge of tools such as CYME, GIS, etc.
