The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer, Electrical to join our Smelter Projects & Engineering team in Sudbury. This is a permanent position**,** working Monday to Friday dayshift.

As a Senior Engineer, Electrical, you will be responsible for providing engineering services and technical advice to the Smelter Complex. The Senior Engineer, Electrical will communicate regularly with the operations, maintenance and project teams both internally and externally on strategies to ensure that goals and priorities are clearly understood.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provides technical direction for engineering designs and assists and guides other personnel.
  • Conduct engineering studies and field inspections, and prepares relevant reports and participate in the review of construction and commissioning and start-up functions.
  • Reviews the work of design personnel, when assigned, to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, codes and standards and conduction reviews of engineering consultants engineering designs, drawings and specifications on assigned projects.
  • Interact regularly with the plant as a subject matter expert providing technical guidance and analysis and recommendations to the sites for unplanned outages related to tripped electrical power circuits or other upset conditions.
  • Provide technical assistance in trouble shooting, repair of electrical equipment and risk assessment and provide technical assistance to Investigate electrical equipment failures.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation required.

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of (8) eight years of experience in the Electrical Engineering field.
  • Familiar with latest codes, acts and regulations and keeps abreast of technology and latest developments in his/her design field.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, motor controls including soft starters & VFDs, transformers, motors, including maintenance and testing.
  • Strong knowledge on performing power system studies.
  • Knowledge on industrial control systems and instrumentation is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of underground and surface equipment requirements to support mine development and production operations is highly desirable.
