Director, Technical Solutions - Secure Networks

We are seeking a Director, Technical Solutions - Secure Networks.
Our ideal candidate will be strong technically with a good eye for business and an inspiring presence! You will have experience in traditional and cloud-based infrastructures in which you have scaled, led, and secured an ecosystem of applications with proactive strategies, roadmaps, and inspiring vision. You have a strategic mind and operate as a senior leader that influences the business and company strategy. You will be responsible for development and the ongoing enhancement of secure network and platform capabilities to support and evolve the Canada Life technology roadmap.
What you will do
- Responsible for the efficient design, engineer and service delivery for supported data networks
- Accountable for evaluating existing secure network and drive next generation solution development across technology platforms
- Act as an escalation point for resolution of complex network delivery and operational issues
- Lead a cross-functional team to deliver engineered solutions that meet business requirements and engineering specifications
- Collaborate closely with multiple teams to deliver platform improvements and common reusable components
- Drive platform automation and engineering improvements that will accelerate delivery, increase quality and reduce maintenance and change fail rates
- Implement and maintain platform automation and engineering best practices, standards and guidelines
- Collaborate with product team and architects to identify, prioritize, and implement secure network and platform engineering requirements |
- Build strong and trusted relationships with internal and external partners
- Manage risk and compliance in accordance with Canadian and Global standards. Ensure alignment/adherence to enterprise technology standards, vendor management standards, and risk standards.
- Focus on continuous learning and professional development
- Drive an agile mindset within the team that measures progress over perfection
- Hold yourself and your team accountable to contribute to the overall digital modernization of the organization
- Ensure solutions are enhanced, secured and upgraded to evolve the roadmap

What you will bring
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in business or computer science or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Professional certifications in network and security (CCIE, CISSP, CCSE, etc.)
- 10+ years direct experience designing a highly available production infrastructure
- In depth understanding of network protocols and services as well as means of securing communications
- Track record for leading IT transformational initiatives in sophisticated environments.
- Strong understanding of wired and wireless connectivity platforms and protocols
- Ability to adapt to a fast-moving technology landscape and keep pace with the latest thinking and new technologies.
- Broad knowledge of industry technology and directions, and expert knowledge in network and security domains such as network technologies (LAN/WAN/WLAN, SDWAN, Load Balancers, DNS), Observability technologies, IAM technologies, Cloud Computing, Automation, IPS/IDS, DDOS, Firewalls, WAF, VPN etc.
- Provides expert security guidance by identifying technical threats and vulnerabilities, developing security solutions, and ensuring compliance with standards
- Versed in a variety of hardware and software manufacturers, and a high degree of comfort and experience in mixed vendor environments e.g. Cisco, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, F5
- Demonstrable ability to formulate a high-level strategy, then convert it into a tactical plan and execute on that plan.
- Proven experience as a business-focused, credible leader in a large fast-growing technology company.
- Drives results and changes processes to improve performance; creates a culture of accountability.
- Has a bias to action.
- Solid understanding of delivery enablement techniques such as automated testing and automated deployments.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative business relationships.
- Able to pivot and quickly change direction in response to changing priorities.
- Experience coaching and mentoring technical practitioners.
- Strong communication, collaboration and relationship building skills.
- Experience working in financial services industry an asset.

- You are a systems thinker, an effective communicator, and can find the balance between when to be tactical vs. strategic.
- You are skilled at identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in the full lifecycle of a large distributed system. With prior experience in areas such as design, development, configuration, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operations.
The base salary for this position is between $92,100.00 - $170,500.00 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
