BMO Trust Company plays a critical role in supporting clients through fiduciary services and estate administration, while the National Trust Office drives strategic initiatives, innovation, and operational excellence across the trust business.

The Associate Director, Estates and Trusts supports the Head, National Trust Office in executing national strategies, initiatives, and projects that advance the mandate of BMO Trust Company. This role is dynamic and cross-functional, contributing to a wide range of activities including strategic planning, reporting, data analysis, performance tracking, branding, referral programs, and national initiatives. The incumbent acts as a trusted resource and project lead, helping to ensure alignment across BMO Private Wealth and BMO Trust Company.

MANDATE

Strategic Execution & National Initiatives

  • Support the execution of the National Trust Office strategy across BMO Trust Company and BMO Private Wealth.
  • Lead or contribute to national projects and initiatives, including partner programs, performance reporting, and operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement programs that enhance trust services, client experience, and advisor engagement.
  • Assist in the development and rollout of national referral programs, branding initiatives, and strategic communications.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and briefing materials for senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor and analyze business performance metrics to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business and the client.
  • Assists in the development of strategic plans.
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Helps determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Coordinates the management of databases; ensures alignment and integration of data in adherence with data governance standards.
  • Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues.
  • Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Builds change management plans of varying scope and type; leads or participates in a variety of change management activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Leads or participates in defining the communication plan designed to positively influence or change behaviour; develops tailored messaging; and identifies appropriate distribution channels.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as a liaison between the National Trust Office and other BMO Private Wealth teams, including legal, finance, marketing, and operations.
  • Support the integration of trust services into broader wealth offerings and initiatives.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices across regional trust teams and national partners.
  • Represent the National Trust Office in working groups, committees, and strategic forums.

Leadership & Influence

  • Champion innovation, collaboration, and excellence in all aspects of trust strategy and execution.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning.
  • Provide thought leadership and contribute to the evolution of trust services within BMO Private Wealth.

Risk & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and fiduciary standards.
  • Support governance activities, including documentation, reporting, and audit readiness.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of BMO Trust Company and BMO Private Wealth systems, programs, and internal processes,
  • Strong understanding of fiduciary services, estate planning, and wealth management principles.
  • Familiarity with BMO Trust Company and BMO Private Wealth structures and offerings preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of fiduciary laws including estate planning techniques, relevant tax regulations.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.

Salary:

$69,000.00 - $129,000.00

Pay Type:

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
