BB4CK is seeking a warm, adaptable, and values-driven individual to join our team as a Kitchen Engagement Coordinator on a 12-month full-time contract, with the possibility of extension.
In this role, you'll help create a positive and energetic kitchen experience while supporting the daily production of nutritious lunches for kids across Calgary. For over 30 years, Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids (BB4CK) has been dedicated to ensuring every child in our city has access to the food they need to thrive. Together with our BB4CK community, volunteers, parents, school staff, and donors, we connect kids to nutritious meals through school lunches and summer camps and by supporting families with grocery cards. We are committed to providing low-barrier, dignified access to food, ensuring every child feels cared for and supported by their community.

Position Overview
The Kitchen Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and values-aligned environment in the BB4CK Central Kitchen. Rooted in BB4CK's core values of People, Action, and Trust, this role supports the daily operations of the lunch program by cultivating strong relationships with volunteers, ensuring safe and efficient kitchen operations, and creating a sense of community and purpose.
The KEC ensures volunteers feel supported, prepared, and connected to BB4CK's vision while contributing to the production and distribution of nutritious lunches for kids across Calgary. This role collaborates closely with the Central Kitchen Team, Volunteer Engagement Team, and other internal partners to uphold high standards of food safety, workflow efficiency, and volunteer experience, aligning with Alberta Health Services (AHS) standards and BB4CK's internal kitchen guidelines.
Contract Term
This is a 12-month full-time contract, expected to begin in February 2026, with the exact start date to be finalized with the successful candidate. There is a possibility of extension based on organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities of the Kitchen Engagement Coordinator:
Volunteer Coordination & Support

Build strong, respectful relationships with volunteers, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose.

Welcome, orient, and support volunteers through their daily tasks, ensuring clarity and confidence.

Model inclusive and values-aligned communication in all interactions.

Identify and escalate volunteer needs or concerns to the Team Lead or Volunteer Engagement Team.

Support volunteer recognition efforts within the kitchen environment.
Kitchen Operations
-
Support the daily production of nutritious lunches by coordinating volunteer workflows, food prep, assembly, and clean-up.

Maintain safe and organized workspaces aligned with AHS standards and BB4CK kitchen standards.

Support and reinforce safe food-handling procedures, storage practices, and daily temperature checks.
-
Assist with stock rotation, deliveries, equipment care, and ongoing operational improvements.
-
Lead and maintain assigned operational areas (e.g., delivery workflows, snack processes, or other kitchen systems), making day-to-day adjustments and decisions within established frameworks.

Provide occasional support with the delivery of lunches, as required.
Community Building & Engagement

- Support volunteers in understanding BB4CK's impact, mission, and community-focused approach.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

2–4 years of experience in kitchen operations, volunteer coordination, community programming, or a related field.

Experience supporting diverse groups of volunteers or community members.

Valid Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain shortly after hire).
-
Experience with safety-driven environments, hospitality, non-profit work, or group facilitation is an asset.

Comfortable learning new systems and tools that support operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & REQUIREMENTS

Primarily in the central kitchen, with some flexibility for remote administrative tasks.

Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift or move kitchen items weighing up to 25 lbs, with accommodations available as required.

Comfort in a loud, fast-paced, high-activity environment.

Occasional evening or weekend support as required.
Work Hours

This role is full-time, Monday to Friday, with a standard shift of 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The role also includes occasional Sunday or evening support as required.

Some flexibility is needed to support operational demands and team coverage.
Total Compensation & Benefits

Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids (BB4CK) has worked for over 30 years to bring people together – giving time, energy, resources and tons of heart – to ensure that kids who need food have access. To it. We have over 30 kitchens over 5,000 kids every day. Prepared lunches are delivered to schools around the city, and parents, caregivers and school staff work hard to make sure that any kid who needs food can access it. All of this is funded by our community, giving to help ensure no kid goes to school hungry in our city. Right now, we are in conversation with families to learn about their food needs and how we can best design a pilot program that will best connect kids to the food they need.
