Layout Technician (Construction)

The Layout Technician supports Project Teams in the planning and execution of construction projects through accurate field data collection, layout, and documentation. This role involves operating surveying and laser scanning equipment, managing field data, and supporting quality assurance processes to ensure precision, efficiency, and successful project delivery.

This position is a hands-on field role with supporting office responsibilities and provides a foundation for growth within field team inside Maple Reinders.

As Layout Technician, you will be accountable to:

  • Conduct and assist with construction layout, as built surveys, topographic surveys, and control networks.
  • Operate surveying and scanning equipment (including GPS units and total stations) to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
  • Perform laser scanning activities, including equipment setup, data capture, basic processing, and distribution to project teams.
  • Deliver accurate and timely field data to support construction execution and decision making.
  • Support Project Teams with routine QA/QC checks and report discrepancies to the Lead VDC Field Tech or Project Team.
  • Organize field data to ensure data integrity and traceability.
  • Assist with document control, including organizing and distributing drawings, models, and specifications.
  • Support the preparation of as-built documentation with basic proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Participate in project meetings to understand scope, sequencing, and field coordination requirements.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of field supplies and ensure vehicles and equipment are properly stocked and ready for deployment.
  • Maintain working proficiency in required surveying, scanning, and data processing software.
  • Troubleshoot basic software and equipment issues to support uninterrupted field operations.
  • Perform routine servicing, calibration, and care of surveying and scanning equipment, maintaining QA/QC documentation.
  • Stay current with best practices in field technology, tools, and workflows through ongoing training and application.
  • Assist in researching and evaluating new tools or technologies that may improve field operations.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Technical diploma in a related field. -Two (2) or more years of surveying related experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, provincial, and federal workplace regulations.
  • Fundamental understanding of surveying principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • General understanding of construction trades, techniques, and workflows.
  • Laser scanning experience not necessarily but an asset.
  • Working knowledge of surveying and laser scanning equipment and associated software.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, blueprints, schematics, and field plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Windows based tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam).
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation as travel to sites will be required.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000 / Year (depending on experience)

Location: Mississauga, Ontario (with regular travel to sites around Ontario)
