The Position
The Data Systems Architect is a front-end resource to contribute as a knowledgeable subject matter expert in facilitating definition of architecture and scope for data driven Automation Systems and / or data integration of Customer Systems to Eclipse core Automation Projects. The incumbent will be a significant contributor in the continuous improvement of Data related capabilities for Eclipse Automation. The resource will work within the Data Systems, Sales and Applications Departments as well as all Eclipse Divisions to support data related requests and proposals while delivering the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture
**What You'll Be Doing:**Technical:
- Participate when required in customer RFQ review meetings, either on-site at the customer or in-house
- Work with the Customer to understand their Systems and determine the best solution to interface the requirements to the Core Automation Systems
- Prepare Architecture drawings and technical write-ups to support the Applications Department quotes
- Liaise between Data Systems, Electrical and Controls Engineering when required for technical assistance in developing concepts and processes
- Support “Task Resource Estimates” when assisting Applications with estimating labor and material costs to meet customer requirements.
- Support Project Managers with “change order estimates” during the Project Execution
- Identify Architecture and Scope high risk items that need early development and /or “Proof of Concept” to mitigate the risks early in the Project
- Liaise with specialized suppliers to obtain estimates of major material and equipment costs required for the preparation of budgets and proposals
- Prepare Data System Requirement Specification and Acceptance Test Plan.
- Facilitate initial setup of Project work items in Eclipse DevOps source code environment
- Identify that all Project Resource have internal “Awareness” training for the specializations with the Project at time of Project kick-off
- Select, test and integrate hardware and software components such as Servers, Hypervisor, VPN devices, Ethernet managed switches, Virtual Machines, customer data system interfaces, security interfaces to cloud systems and edge systems
- Facilitate Pre-Automation Services and GAMP related Projects when required
- Work with Data Systems Designers on debug and commission of the data systems at our facility during the system integration stage and then again at the customer site during installation
- Support the execution or verification of FAT, SAT, and ATP
- Travel as required to customer and supplier sites to perform installation, commissioning, acceptance and training duties
- Contribute to design of experiments and root cause analysis activities when required pre and post install
Leadership:
- Promote positive relations with internal customers, partners, customers, vendors, and distributors. Data related projects will have a strong Customer facing responsibility in communication due to the complexity of the work
- Provide high level understanding of the data requirements and architecture to the Project teams
- Continuously observe where gaps in understanding or scope exist during Project execution and resolve
- Recommend and consistently administer policies and procedures to enhance department operations and support continuous improvement
- Enforce and promote Eclipse policies throughout the entire company including Human Resources, personal development, Safety and Environmental
Project Execution
- Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work within a team environment and actively participate in group meetings
- Position requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel as required in varying timelines
- Recommend and consistently administer policies and procedures to enhance department operations and support continuous improvement
- Enforce and promote Eclipse policies throughout the entire company including Human Resources, personal development, Safety, and Environmental
- Work with Human Resources and abide by the Employment Standards Act and the Eclipse Employee Handbook
- Promote environmentally and ergonomically safe conceptual product and/or processes to ensure safety of Eclipse personnel and the customer’s employees
- Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct Code
- Adhere to the Eclipse Project Operating Policy
- Maintain company confidentiality
- Maintain a good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse Corporate Vision
- Adhere to all Health and Safety rules and procedures
- Represent the company at various community and/or business meetings to promote the company
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned
- Foster the development of a culture reflective of the core values of the business
- Notify the Data Systems Project Lead if milestones are not projected to be met by the expected due dates
Travel:
- Expectation of travel to vendor/supplier locations is less than 25% of time, however may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet project needs
**What We're Looking For:**Education:
- A post-secondary engineering degree, diploma or equivalent, specializing in mechanical, electrical, systems or computer engineering
- Must have intermediate level training and experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL, and Web Design
- Must have experience with electrical controls and integration of automation equipment
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience with medium to large scale Projects in the custom automation industry, Controls, Industrial Communications
- 7+ years of experience in data systems, ERP, MES, SCADA, security, server systems, cloud-based systems, and Web Design
- Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Facilitate and actively participate in group/project meetings
- Strong Data System Architecture and inter-system interface knowledge
- Strong programming, and electrical systems knowledge to support problem solving skills
- Experience of control systems and machine operation
- A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Experience in vertical layers above the core automation systems, such as machine learning and analytics, SCADA, MES and ERP Systems will be considered an asset
- Familiarity of FDA regulations and Good Automated Manufacturing Processes (GAMP) and asset
- A strong understanding of change control and configuration management an asset
- Experience in PLC programming will be considered an asset
