About the role

**POSITION TYPE:**Volunteer -in-office.

**LOCATION:**CPAWS National Office, 600-100 Gloucester St. Ottawa, ON K2P 0A4

**LANGUAGE:**English or French or Bilingual English-French

TIME COMMITMENT: 6-8 hours/week (flexible) for 3-6 months.

**START DATE:**Mid-April 2026

About the Organization

Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (www.cpaws.org) is a national charitable organization with 13 chapters across Canada, almost 100 staff, and hundreds of volunteers who have helped to protect over half a million square kilometres of Canada’s public land and water since 1963.

Our conservation vision is to protect at least half of Canada’s public land and water in a framework of reconciliation, for the benefit of both wildlife and humans.

CPAWS is based on the unceded and unsurrendered lands of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation, and works in both unceded and treaty lands of First Nations, Métis and Inuit throughout the country known as Canada.

About the Role

CPAWS National Office is searching for a volunteer reporting to the National Office and Operations Manager and working alongside the National Administrative Assistant. The successful candidate will play a key role in our filing and archiving project.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for early-career administrative professionals to gain office management experience with one of Canada's leading environmental charities or for newcomers to Canada who want to learn more about Canadian work culture. Responsibilities

1) Support the filing and digitalization project (80%)

  • Handles boxes, binders and several documents, removes staples, and organizes documents chronologically.
  • Scans documents in batches.
  • Renames scanned documents according to the organization’s naming convention
  • Files scanned documents in the appropriate folders
  • Archives scanned documents and labels them.

2) Support with the physical archive management (15%):

  • Supports the organization with inventory management of the physical archive
  • Supports moving boxes.
  • Provides support during secure shredding operations.

3) Support with other administrative tasks (5%)

    • Assist with preparing tax receipts batches, inserting them into envelopes using a folder inserter, and applying postage using a postage machine.

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Have residency in Canada (Canadian citizenship, PR, work permit, work visa, etc.)
  • Administrative background
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding documents processed
  • Ability to lift banker boxes with a maximum weight of 4 kg.
  • Ability to work standing part of the time (especially while using the scanner)
  • Innovative thinking
