(PERMANENT FULL TIME) CLINICAL DIETITIAN - CLINICAL NUTRITION
About the role
Position Summary
Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences has an opportunity for a highly motivated and organized Clinical Dietitian to join the Clinical Nutrition Team.
Responsibilities include planning and implementing therapeutic and special diets
for inpatients, providing group-based nutrition programs for patients, providing guidance to staff, and completing feeding assessments as part of the Dysphasia Management Team.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
In a tertiary care mental health facility, the incumbent is responsible for:
- Screening and assessing nutritional requirements for inpatients, developing and implementing appropriate care plans; counselling patients and caregivers; prescribing therapeutic diets for patients; developing, evaluating and executing nutrition education programs for groups and individuals in a variety of hospital settings
- Working in collaboration with Food Services Manager, supervisors, diet clerks and technicians to implement nutrition care plans
- Working in collaboration with professional staff to provide dysphagia management as part of the Dysphagia Management team
- Coordinating nutrition month activities
- Act as a resource on various interdisciplinary teams including nursing staff, clinical informatics, family resource center, etc. Adherence to appropriate documentation requirements for all nutritional care provided
- Administrative tasks/committee membership as assigned
- Maintain patient workload measurement data
- Responsible to recognize and report patient, staff, and environment safety issues, identify and implement preventative and corrective actions, within the scope of this role.
- Participate in preceptorship of dietetic interns and other students as needed
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Registered Dietitian in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
- CDE preferred
- Experience in dysphagia, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome an asset
- Experience with clients with mental health diagnoses
- Knowledge of principles, theories and current practices/techniques of professional clinical nutrition including specific issues related to mental health to provide a full range of nutritional services to a large mental health facility.
- Ability to interpret nutrition and medical information and to utilize professional judgement to plan and deliver therapeutic diets.
- Knowledgeable of computer applications such as: Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Meditech (Electronic Medical Record) and a working knowledge of CBORD food services application.
- Job requires written communication skills to maintain documentation in patient charts in accordance with the College of Dietitians of Ontario, prepare presentations, and nutrition information pamphlets/handouts
- Work in collaboration with the Physician in Chief for Medical Services as per the medical directive allowing Dietitians to order, modify, and discontinue therapeutic diets and supplements.
- Compliance with all applicable legislation and hospital policies
