With the final phase of our state-of-the-art Emergency Department nearing completion, we are preparing to open a full capacity in early 2026. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the unit clerk in the Emergency Department at the Peter Lougheed Hospital works as an essential member of the multidisciplinary team. Specific Accountabilities: The Unit Clerk in the Emergency Department provides essential clerical and administrative support to ensure smooth operations and timely communication within a fast-pasted, high acuity environment. This is an outstanding opportunity to work in an advanced scope of practice. This role involved managing multiple communication systems, coordinating patient flow, supporting clinical staff, maintaining accurate health records, and adhering to AHS standards and confidentiality requirements. Description
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Classification: Unit Clerk Union: AUPE GSS Unit and Program: Emergency Department Primary Location: Peter Lougheed Centre Location Details: As Per Location Multi-Site: Not Applicable FTE: 0.70 Posting End Date: 11-AUG-2026 Employee Class: Regular Part Time Date Available: 21-SEP-2026 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 12 Shifts per cycle: 42 Shift Pattern: Days, Nights, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $28.49 Maximum Salary: $34.62 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable
Required Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications
Recent Unit Clerk experience in an urban emergency department (within the last year). Epic-Connect care trained within Emergency ASAP module currently active. Current Emergency Connect Care Referral and Consult experience. Demonstrated ability to multitask in high acuity, fast paced environment dealing with multiple competing demand. Effectively communicate with multidisciplinary team members during high pressure emergencies. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in a team environment with conflict management skills. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills through computer, verbal and written means in a professional and mature manner. Demonstrated ability to critically think within your scope as a Unit Clerk. Must be able to bend down and pick up 10 to 15 pounds, move from sit to standing, twist and reach up above shoulder height in frequent motions. Must be able tolerate to stand up to 30 minutes at a time. Must be able to tolerate sitting at a desk and typing while staring at a computer screen and answering phone calls simultaneously for over 60 minutes at a time. Must be able to independently walk throughout a large busy department several times during shift.
Preferred Qualifications
MUSE, SharePoint, SIREN, Netcare, I-Request. Current Referral Management experience. Up to date ACE modules.
