Job Summary:

Seeking a proactive, results-oriented professional with a strong commitment to achieving exceptional outcomes.

This role involves supporting large-scale municipal infrastructure projects through strategic planning and tactical execution of community relations efforts, as well as addressing construction-related inquiries and concerns from the public, Councillors, and other stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute community relations plans for the full construction lifecycle of a project.
  • Prepare materials and manage Councillor briefings.
  • Develop and distribute various types of construction notifications, ensuring timely and accessible information about upcoming work and ongoing developments.
  • Manage dedicated phone/email lines for community inquiries about construction projects.
  • Create materials and host community information meetings (virtual and in-person).
  • Draft and distribute e-newsletters.
  • Create and update project websites using the City’s content management system.
  • Build strong relationships with residents, businesses, Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), Councillors, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other City divisions to align communication efforts.
  • Respond to and resolve construction-related questions and concerns from members of the public, Councillors and other stakeholders.
  • Manage sensitive issues and ensure clear, consisteant messaging.

Key Qualifications:

Your application for the role must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-secondary education in social or political science, urban planning, communications or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  2. Experience in community engagement, public consultation or communications, especially supporting large infrastructure projects.
  3. Experience in project management, managing multiple priorities.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse audiences and multiple City of Toronto divisions.
  5. Demonstrated ability to approach challenges with curiosity, creativity, confidence, and persistence, coupled with a proactive, results-driven attitude and a commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes.
  6. Strong understanding of construction projects, including the ability to effectively translate technical details into clear, accessible information for the community, outlining both immediate impacts and long-term benefits.
  7. Proficiency with communications and content development tools, including Office 365, SharePoint, web content management systems, Adobe Creative Suite and others.
  8. Political acuity and familiarity with the City of Toronto’s processes and structures.
