About the role

At Alto, we are actively contributing to the transformation of Canada's future with our high-speed train project connecting Quebec City and Toronto. With the support of the Government of Canada, this innovative project aims to improve the quality of life of our citizens, strengthen ties between communities and stimulate economic growth.

Would you like to take on a stimulating, high-impact challenge? We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Environmental Partnerships. Please note that the candidate may be based in one of our 4 offices: Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto or Ottawa.

The role

Reporting to the Vice President, Environment, you will play a leading role in protecting biodiversity and combating climate change: as a senior advisor, you will be at the heart of the organization's major environmental issues. You will have the opportunity to build and maintain strategic partnerships with a variety of stakeholders and influence internal strategy to fully integrate sustainable development. Your expertise will enable you to implement innovative solutions and lead collaborative projects with a high environmental impact, actively contributing to carbon neutrality and the conservation of natural environments.

The responsibilities

  • Develop and propose strategic directions and environmental policies aligned with objectives such as carbon neutrality and positive biodiversity.
  • Contribute to positioning the project as a sustainable initiative by drawing on internationally, nationally, and provincially recognized frameworks.
  • Provide technical and regulatory expertise on environmental issues and monitor legislative and societal developments.
  • Track and integrate innovations and best practices to reduce environmental impact.
  • Develop a partnership strategy consistent with regulations and project objectives.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with strategic partners (governments, NGOs, Indigenous communities, businesses, academic institutions).
  • Ensure that partnerships are consistent with public policy and collaborate with federal and provincial authorities.
  • Lead and coordinate environmental projects, including carbon offset initiatives, ecological restoration, and applied research.
  • Collaborate with the internal team and private development partner to implement appropriate action plans and ensure follow-up on commitments.
  • Participate in the planning and supervision of communication, consultation, and public engagement activities related to the project.

The requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (environment, engineering, science, or equivalent); master's degree in management or environmental studies considered an asset.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar position, preferably with knowledge of linear projects, the railway sector, or transportation.
  • Experience in the public or parapublic sector desired.
  • Proficiency in provincial and federal regulatory frameworks and environmental compliance processes.
  • Significant experience in regulatory processes (federal and/or provincial).
  • Good knowledge of ESG frameworks and standards (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14001, Act4Nature, TNFD).
  • In-depth understanding of environmental issues and assessments, applicable laws and regulations.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to establish and maintain strategic partnerships.
  • Ability to influence and mobilize internally around environmental objectives and strategic projects.
  • Motivational leadership to guide employees toward common solutions in biodiversity and natural environments.
  • Ability to simplify complex information for a variety of audiences.
  • Good judgment, analytical skills, political savvy, and diplomacy.
  • Bilingualism in French and English, both spoken and written.

Why join our innovative team?

  • Basic paid group insurance for you and your family: medical, dental, life, disability, etc.
  • Access to wellness and health accounts to support your lifestyle.
  • Flex-Alto account of $500 to encourage a healthier approach and a more sustainable mode of transportation.
  • A retirement plan and savings options (RRSP and TFSA).
  • Vacations based on experience, available upon hiring.
  • An incentive compensation program.
  • Flexible hybrid work mode.
  • A work environment that encourages initiative, innovation, and forward-thinking solutions.
  • A unique opportunity to shape the future of transportation in Canada.
