The Job Responsibilities

Draeger's Engineered Solutions team designs and manufactures Live Fire Training Systems and Mining Refuge and Rescue Solutions. Live Fire Training Systems use propane fueled fires to allow trainees to prepare for real firefighting scenarios. Some of the realistic scenarios can include kitchens, couches, beds, cars, aircraft etc. Mine Refuge chambers provide shelter during an emergency in hazardous environments during underground mining operations.

This position is responsible to build and install electrical control systems. Manufacturing and installation work can be required at Draeger’s facility in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, fabrication shops, or at customer sites, primarily in North America.

This position is onsite at our Kingston office with up to 25% International travel.

Build and install electrical control systems

  • In accordance with relevant codes and standards, including e.g. but not limited to CSA B149, NFPA 86, NFPA 70, UL795 and TSSA regulations (in Ontario)

  • In alignment with the designs provided by Draeger’s project engineering

  • Install & Monitor performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments or replacement.

  • Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.

Testing and commissioning

  • Inspect the systems according to Draeger’s internal Acceptance Test Protocol (ATP)Reads, Employs, and updates electrical schedules.

Other General Functions

  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team which has responsibility for the manufacture and installation of complete projects.
  • Provide customer service including troubleshooting.
  • Assist gas technicians with phone and service calls.
  • Work with 3rd party authorities on field inspection and approvals.
  • Ensure documentation of testing, training, handover etc. according to Draeger’s requirements.
  • Leads, guides, and/or trains other electricians in applicable procedures, techniques within the guide lines of the Electrical Code.
  • Provide Operator and Maintenance Training according to Draeger’s procedures.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Ensures manufacturing area is maintained clean and sorted.
  • May perform work of lower Level Electricians.
  • Adheres to appropriate safety requirements in all aspects of work.

Your Qualifications

  • Graduate from an Apprenticeship Program; licensed in accordance with the licensing regulation.

  • Certified electrician for work in Ontario with 5 (or more) years experience in electrical technology manufacturing and installation, preferably involving applications in industrial environment.

  • Must possess exceptional organization skills. Excellent verbal and written communications capabilities required. Thorough understanding and demonstrated working knowlege of the lawa and regulation related to the scope of work.

  • Ability to deal professionally and courteously with internal and external contacts.

  • Proven experience working with confidential and sensitive information, ability to work on multiple priorities in a fast paced environment, strong attention to detail is required on a daily basis.

Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant codes, standards and guidelines (e.g. CSA, TSSA, NFPA)

  • Skills in troubleshooting to resolve field issues

  • Skills in organizing workload and time to work on simultaneous projects

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record are required

  • Able to obtain valid international travel documents
