Job Overview The Indo Pacific Team – East Asia & Oceania region is looking for a highly motivated and experienced business development professional who will lead the team's business development efforts in Australia and provide market coverage for New Zealand and South Pacific Islands.
The successful candidate will have significant international business and business development experience working in International markets, complemented by a sound knowledge of international banking, financing and insurance practices. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of international markets, banking and business practices and culture. The successful candidate will be expected to relocate to Sydney, Australia (exact date to be determined) for an international assignment as a Chief Representative for a minimum of three years.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a passion for EDC's mandate, possess strong relationship, influencing and business development skills and must act as a trusted partner linking foreign opportunities to Canadian capabilities. The Chief Representative will promote the Corporation's value proposition for the market and the Indo Pacific region and develop shared business objectives with the Indo Pacific and Sector teams.
To be a successful Chief Representative for EDC one must:
- Have a passion for EDC's mandate
- Possess strong relationship building skills and the capability of connecting to the market
- Have experience in structuring transactions , screen potential clients and facilitate transactions
- Possess strong leadership skills in order to lead, coach and mentor the Australia team of professionals and manage a large and complex financing portfolio
- The ability to work independently and as a member of a broader virtual team
- The capacity to work a variety of hours due to varying time zones, networking events, social engagements, and business meetings
- The ability to generate new financing business in line with EDC’s corporate strategy, including call planning, prospecting and selling to originate transactions
- Pro-actively manage accounts of key buyers, borrowers and market intermediaries, and contributing to the systematic management of EDC's Canadian accounts - small, medium and large, who are active or interested in the market
- Lead the planning and development of an overall country strategy for the Australian market as well as client-specific account plans
- Provide corporate representation at public events across the region as well as during outreach activities in Canada
- Provide market intelligence both internally and externally
Skills & Knowledge
- Solid knowledge of international capital markets, banking environment and global insurance environment
- A thorough understanding of financial requirements throughout the life cycle of capital projects and related financing techniques
- Solid knowledge of the Canadian export and investment opportunities in the region
- A proven track record of developing strategic relationships
- Demonstrated ability to identify and deliver on new business opportunities
- Solid influencing, negotiating, relationship management and highly effective presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with relevant EDC virtual teams and exhibit appropriate leadership and teamwork skills
- Ability to identify key account targets and develop and implement account strategies to meet objectives
- Ability to work autonomously with strong initiative
- Must be result-oriented and a team player
Screening Criteria
- University degree in business or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Minimum of 10 years of international business experience, including some relevant experience in a business development role
- Experience in financial services industry, in selling and/or underwriting
- Knowledge of region; previous experience and/or familiarity with the Australian and/or Asian market
- Willingness to relocate for a foreign assignment
- Bilingual (English and French)
Assets
- Experience with a broad range of EDC products and a deep understanding of EDC's mandate and business principles
- Leadership and mentoring experience

- Top Secret Security Clearance (all applicants must have Top Secret Clearance or be willing to commence the screening process);
Salary Range Manager Business Development 20: Salaries typically range from $127, 380-$169, 838 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
