About the role

Beacon Software is a holding company founded by Divya Gupta (former Partner at Sequoia) and Nilam Ganenthiran (former President of Instacart). We acquire mission-critical software companies and accelerate their growth with our in-house engineering and go-to-market resources.

Beacon is a Series B+ startup funded by Tier 1 VCs and angels including General Catalyst and the founders of Stripe, DoorDash, Ramp, and Cognition. In less than a year since founding, we have completed 20+ acquisitions and have tens of millions of dollars in profit.

We growing our team in Toronto, San Francisco, and New York. Apply below.

We are hiring a Director, Portfolio Operations. This is a high-impact, high-trust operating role designed for someone who wants to help shape how real businesses grow.

You'll be embedded in the Operating Partner's office and serve as a force-multiplier across dozens of software companies. You'll work closely with portfolio General Managers (GMs), Beacon's value creation and finance teams, and other key executives.

This role is both strategic and executional. You will help build the "operating system" that lets Beacon drive real outcomes without linear team growth. This includes defining how GMs access help, how Beacon Advisors are deployed, and how we manage financial visibility and accountability across the portfolio.

You'll attend weekly business reviews, run annual planning, prepare quarterly reviews, and, when needed, represent the Operating Partner in meetings. Successful individuals in this role will either move into direct company involvement as either a player in or leading a Beacon portfolio company.

This role spans six core pillars:

  • Initiative Execution (25%): Drive top-priority initiatives that impact multiple companies (e.g. pricing rollout, back-office migration, Advisor deployment). Own execution rhythm and cross-functional accountability.
  • GM Engagement & Enablement (20%): Work directly with GMs to surface blockers, share playbooks, and connect them to Beacon resources. Serve as a facilitator and occasional decision-maker on behalf of the Operating Partner.
  • Planning & Operating Rhythms (20%): Design and lead the annual planning process. Manage cadence for business reviews, QBRs, and budgeting.
  • Portfolio Performance Visibility (15%): Partner with Finance to ensure companies are operating to budget. Improve tools and dashboards that help Beacon manage the portfolio.
  • Program & Playbook Oversight (10%): Evaluate whether Beacon's value creation playbooks are actually working. Shape roadmap for what new programs or support we need to build.
  • Advisor Network Deployment (10%): Define and run the engagement strategy for Beacon Advisors. Track impact and ensure companies are getting value from expert support.

The other main functions of the role include:

  • Represent the Operating Partner internally and externally as needed.
  • Step into high-leverage projects when bandwidth gaps emerge across the team.
  • Provide leverage on internal initiatives that help Beacon scale without bureaucracy.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic foundation and professional track record in technology or software.
  • 10+ years experience with SMB vertical SaaS or tech-enabled services
  • Strong P&L fluency; you understand the levers of profitable growth.
  • Experience working with or advising C-level executives.
  • Track record of execution across functions (e.g. product, ops, finance).
  • Comfortable in ambiguity — you know how to build without a playbook.
  • Exceptional communicator — clear, concise, and trusted in the room.
  • Highly organized and systems-oriented.
  • Deep empathy for operators — you know how hard it is to run a business.
  • Curious about AI and experienced in deploying AI-enabled tools or processes.
