About the role
Profile Summary
The Quality Control Lead Inspector is a dual-role professional who balances hands-on inspection with frontline team coordination. Acting as the bridge between management and the shop floor, you will ensure all products align with the Quality Manual, customer contracts, and ISO 9001:2015 / AS9100D standards. You are a proactive "Quality Promoter" who identifies daily priorities, allocates tasks to the QC team, and coaches inspectors to achieve "right-first-time" results. Your goal is to move the department toward a proactive, Industry 4.0-ready environment by ensuring on-time execution and peak team performance.
Leadership & Supervisory Functions
- Daily Coordination: Identify daily priorities based on the production schedule and allocate tasks to the QC team to ensure seamless workflow.
- On-Time Execution: Monitor the progress of all pending inspections (Receiving, In-Process, Final) to ensure customer delivery dates are met.
- Team Coaching & Development: Act as a technical mentor; update your own product knowledge based on evolving customer requirements and coach the team to perform effective, accurate inspections.
- Performance Monitoring: Observe individual team member performance and propose actionable solutions to the Quality Manager to improve overall departmental efficiency.
- Strategic Scheduling: Work closely with the Quality Manager to develop team schedules that maximize coverage while minimizing the risk of late deliveries.
Technical Inspection & Auditing Functions
- Material Pre-approval & Receiving: Serve as the technical lead and provide guidance and final verification for the designated Receiving Inspector. This includes verification of raw materials and components against PO requirements, Mill Test Reports (MTRs), industry standards and customer specifications before they are released to production.
- Comprehensive Inspection: Perform high-level verification of product conformance (First-Offs, In-Process, and Final inspection) alongside the team.
- Outside Service Verification: Inspect and validate parts returning from external processes (heat treat, plating, coating, etc.) to ensure all certifications and physical attributes meet the required standards.
- Workcenter Auditing: Conduct systematic audits to ensure documentation is current, tools are calibrated, and operators are following stated procedures.
- Non-Conformance Management: Lead the identification and recording of non-conformances. Oversee the processing of non-conforming items and verify that corrections are resolved.
- Process Optimization: Observe process capability (PpK & Cpk) and suggest improvements to the inspection platform to increase efficiency and reduce redundant activities.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor of Engineering degree and/or 5+ years of manufacturing experience, with at least 2 years in a Senior QC or Lead role.
- Metrology & Blueprint Expertise: Master proficiency in reading blueprints, GD&T (Imperial/Metric), and using precision instruments (micrometers, bore/snap/thread gauges, etc.).
- CMM Proficiency: Experience in CMM operation is required; programming experience (Calypso, Mcosmos, or PC-DMIS) is a significant asset.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of material characteristics, material certifications (MTRs), and outside service evaluation (paint, coating, heat-treat).
- Standards Knowledge: Strong proficiency in AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015. Knowledge of ISO 45001 and 14001 is a plus.
- Digital Literacy & Data Analysis: Proficient in the MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Advanced knowledge of SharePoint for document control and Power BI for monitoring departmental KPIs and performance trends is a significant asset.
Personal Qualities & Professional Approach
- Accountability-Driven: A leader who holds themselves and their team to high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
- Solution-Oriented Advocate: Maintains a positive, professional attitude while helping the team solve complex quality problems.
- Adaptable & Visionary: Open to continuous learning and supportive of the department's transition toward Industry 4.0 and advanced inspection technologies.
