Position Title

Medical Laboratory Assistant Instructor (Part-Time)

Faculty/Instructor Profile

The School of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for a Part-Time Instructor to teach in the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) program!

We are seeking a Part-Time Instructor for the Fall semester (December 11, and December 15-18) and for the Winter semester (January – April, 2026).

The MLA program is a certificate program that prepares the graduate for an exciting and challenging career as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. During the year-long program, students will study phlebotomy, urinalysis, histology, and microbiology. Students will be trained to collect, process, and prepare patient specimens, enter data, perform clerical and reception services, perform electrocardiograms and urinalysis, and carry out basic laboratory procedures. Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Teaching students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings with flexibility for both face-to-face and online course delivery.

  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment.

  • Preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material.

  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work.

  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students.

  • Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, project work, and scholarly activity.

  • Participating in School and Polytechnic-wide initiatives and/or committees.

  • Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP, which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy.

  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in the medical laboratory field

  • Current registration as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in good standing as applicable

  • Recent clinical / practical experience (minimum 5 years)

  • Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

  • Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success

  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments

  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice

  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check in accordance with the Polytechnic’s Criminal Record Check policy

  • Current Immunizations as per RDP requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment

  • Registered as member of the CMLTA

Benefits and Compensation Information

Compensation is determined by the highest academic credential received and related experience. Please see the attached Faculty Salary Grids: Current FARDP Full-Time and Part-Time Faculty Grids**.**

The Faculty Association at Red Deer Polytechnic (FARDP) and the related Collective Agreement provides information on compensation for Instructors at Red Deer Polytechnic.

Part-time Instructors:

  • Receive an additional 14% of their gross salary in lieu of benefits and vacation pay.
  • Part-time instructors are not eligible for comprehensive health and dental benefits packages.
  • Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free professional development opportunities offered through the institution.

Eligibility to access the above mentioned benefits is dependent upon the FARDP Collective Agreement and related RDP policies.
