About the role

We are hiring for this position out of our Vancouver office. A successful candidate who applies outside of this area will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

Role Overview:

This role is responsible for managing the full spectrum of our organization's tax compliance and planning across multiple entities and subsidiaries. Key duties include preparing and submitting federal and provincial income tax returns, maintaining tax provision working papers for financial reporting, and handling indirect tax filings. The role also involves researching tax implications for new products and ventures, identifying and mitigating tax risks, facilitating SR&ED claims, and managing CRA audits and inquiries. Additionally, the position liaises with tax authorities to resolve issues, ensures timely remittances and installment payments, and identifies opportunities for tax efficiency, all while maintaining comprehensive documentation to support regulatory submissions.

About the Qualifications:

  • CPA designation.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive professional tax experience, specifically within a Financial Institution.
  • Ability to explain complex income and indirect tax implications to a broad audience.
  • Experience with multi-entity corporate structures which include complex intercompany arrangements.
  • Experience with tax-related financial reporting concepts under IFRS.
  • Experience with NetSuite considered an asset.

About the day-to-day:

  • Preparing and submitting annual federal and provincial income tax returns for multiple entities and subsidiaries.
  • Prepare and maintain tax provision and note disclosure working papers to support the monthly and annual financial reporting process, and address auditor enquiries as needed.
  • Research and report on tax implications for potential new products and business ventures.
  • Identify tax risks within current structures or product offerings and provide solutions on how to mitigate.
  • Submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual filings for indirect taxes.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate completion of tax installment payments, and required remittances.
  • Facilitate SR&ED claims by collaborating with the business and our advisors.
  • Managing CRA tax audits, enquiries, and account management.
  • Liaising with federal and provincial tax authorities to resolve tax issues.
  • Prepare and maintain all supporting working papers and backups to support all submissions to the CRA or other regulatory authorities.

About the work environment:

Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.

Compensation:

Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $120,000 and $130,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possesses.
