About the role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at D-Wave Systems, you will provide technical leadership within the Mechanical team. You will serve as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and will guide the development and introduction of our mechanical systems as required to meet overall system requirements.
You will be a key technical resource in the evaluation, design, implementation, and troubleshooting of complex systems for our product and development needs. You will be an indispensable member of a nimble, energetic, and multi-disciplinary mechanical engineering team within the engineering group. In this role you will work closely with the processor development, electrical, and cryogenic teams.
What you'll do
- Ensure the technical success of internal mechanical projects from proposal, through design, prototype development, validation, new product introduction, manufacturing and sustaining engineering
- Contribute to the continuous development of the entire system which includes the cryogenic system, input-output electrical systems, processor interface, machine control, electrical systems, reliability, and new technology
- Identify and develop Intellectual Property
- Lead teams in building new systems in both our lab and at customer sites
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, cryogenic, and instrumentation problems in the lab and in the field
- Create, maintain, execute, and document sub-systems/products for failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) including unit validation and diagnostic test plans
- Organize, prepare, and present technical information in a clear, effective, and skillful manner within engineering, to other cross-functional teams, and to management
- Contribute to the development and application of company tools and process
- Lead design reviews and provide technical feedback
- Manage changes to the system using industry-standard change management tools (ECR, ECO, etc.)
- Recruit and mentor new team members
- Lead and proactively demonstrate safety to our team including writing SOPs
About You
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum, 7 years of engineering work including technical leadership experience
- 4+ years of experience in complex multi-disciplinary products
- Experience in the product development cycle through stable production including New Product Introduction
- Must be willing to work flexible hours during busy periods (on-call rotation participation will be required)

- Commercial construction, millwright, mechanic, electrician, or building maintenance
- Regulatory Compliance (CSA/UL/CE)

- Mechanical, electrical, automotive, or bicycle repair
- Creative hobbies – sewing, painting, woodworking, etc.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel customer sites located across North America and Europe on occasion (~10%)
- Ability to obtain work authorization in the USA
- Ability to quickly obtain and maintain required security clearances as needed and to work on-site with highly secure and sensitive customers (which may include a background check)

About the role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at D-Wave Systems, you will provide technical leadership within the Mechanical team. You will serve as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and will guide the development and introduction of our mechanical systems as required to meet overall system requirements.
