Production Planner Reports To: Plant Manager – Critical Environments & HEPA Position Summary The Production Planner is responsible for developing, optimizing, and controlling the production schedule to ensure efficient utilization of plant resources while meeting customer delivery requirements. This role plays a critical part in balancing order demand with machine capacity, labor availability, and process capability to achieve optimal plant performance. The Production Planner will work closely with Production Managers, Supervisors, and cross-functional departments to prevent both production congestion and capacity starvation by strategically loading orders into the manufacturing schedule. The successful candidate will leverage ERP system tools, data analysis, and personal initiative to establish daily production priorities, improve schedule adherence, and support continuous operational improvement. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of manufacturing operations, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to drive operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Scheduling Develop and maintain weekly production schedules based on plant capacity, labor availability, machine capability, material availability, and customer demand. Optimize order loading to maximize throughput while avoiding production bottlenecks, congestion, or resource underutilization. Balance customer priorities, lead times, capacity constraints, and operational objectives to ensure efficient production flow. Manage and prioritize standard and expedited customer orders, including quick-ship requirements. Coordinate closely with Production Managers and Supervisors to understand real-time shop floor capacity and operational constraints. Establish and communicate daily production priorities to support effective shop floor execution. Utilize ERP systems and planning tools to load, release, and monitor production orders. Monitor schedule adherence and proactively adjust plans in response to changing production conditions. Capacity Planning & Resource Management Analyze machine capacity, labor capacity, process capability, and manufacturing constraints for effective planning and scheduling. Partner with production leadership to identify potential capacity risks and develop mitigation strategies. Evaluate manpower, equipment, and material requirements to support production objectives. Support long-term capacity planning initiatives and demand forecasting activities. Operational Coordination Collaborate with Production, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Engineering, and other departments to ensure alignment on production plans and delivery commitments. Lead and participate in weekly planning and scheduling review meetings. Communicate schedule changes, priorities, and potential risks to relevant stakeholders. Ensure timely resolution of scheduling conflicts and production constraints. Reporting & Performance Monitoring Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly production planning reports. Monitor key metrics related to schedule attainment, overdue orders, capacity utilization, and production performance. Analyze production data and identify opportunities to improve planning accuracy and operational effectiveness. Maintain planning records and reporting databases to support decision-making. Key Daily Responsibilities Prepare, Maintain, and distribute overdue order list reports to relevant stakeholders. Update missed orders and miscellaneous order tracking reports. Run DOMS and load production cells/schedule orders. Update production loading reports and distribute end-of-day status updates. Monitor schedule performance and adjust priorities as required. Coordinate with production leaders regarding changing priorities and capacity constraints. Key Weekly Responsibilities Lead weekly production planning review meetings. Update production planning data and performance metrics. Prepare and distribute weekly production reports. Participate in weekly planning review meetings with operations leadership. Archive production loading and target performance data. Review machine, material, and manpower plans to ensure alignment with production requirements. Evaluate capacity utilization and identify opportunities for schedule optimization. Qualifications Education Post Secondary Experience 3–5 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, manufacturing operations, supply chain planning, or a related role. Experience working in a manufacturing environment with multiple production cells, machines, and resource constraints. Experience using ERP systems for production planning and scheduling. Experience with reporting and data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI is considered an asset.
