Responsibilities As Vice President, Data, your responsibilities will include:
Define and Execute Data Strategy: Support short- and long-term business goals with data initiatives, ensuring our data ecosystem grows in line with our enterprise programs adding enhanced value for CIBC Mellon and its clients.
Build and Lead a High-Performing Team: Guide, mentor, and inspire a team of hands-on and strategic data professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Rapidly add skills where needed to create an organization capable of hands-on delivery, business partnership and thought leadership across the technology organization.
Develop Core Data Capabilities: Own the design and implementation of the future-state data platform (leveraging Snowflake), develop data products, catalogues, master data management, meta-data management, data quality, lineage and access control solutions. Rapidly develop a codified understanding of the organization’s data needs that empower automation, analytics and enhanced client experiences.
Establish Data Governance: Partner with Governance functions to guide development of policies and procedures based on industry best practice and hard-won personal experience. Design and implement controls and remediation programs that ensure the integrity, security, and responsible use of data, achieving ready and purposeful data access while maintaining complete regulatory and policy compliance.
Enable AI and Digital Transformation: Collaborate with peer AI, Digital, and Platform leads within the Technology function to deliver AI-ready data, empowering advanced analytics, automation, and new digital products. Partner with peers in and outside of Technology to build an appreciation of the lifecycle for each dataset and product being used across the business.
Drive Data Fluency, Culture and Ownership: Champion and coach the organization in data literacy and fluency, fostering federated data ownership and a data-driven mindset across all business functions. Ensure those with new data-related responsibilities are enabled to succeed in their functions, supported by the right tooling, MI, learning resources and coaching.
Deliver Enterprise Data Programs: Lead the end-to-end maturation of our data assets, from architecting ingestion and storage, to catalogue maintenance and end-user training, ensuring adoption and alignment with business priorities. Build and own the enterprise scale data platform, associated tooling and full data operations supporting high-availability, controlled and frictionless access to the firm’s well-curated data assets.
Bridge Silos and Translate Value: Act as a translator between departments, breaking down silos and building relationships to elevate data understanding and collaboration. Collaborate horizontally to achieve business outcomes, putting collective success aHead of, individual or team contributions. Be an accessible, expert and inquisitive partner to business colleagues.
Successfully operating within constraints: Managing budgets, timelines, resources and dependencies taking into account realities of the operating environment, including regulation, BAU needs, investment priorities for your own and other teams.
Representing the organization: As a senior member of the leadership team in a growing and strategically-important part of the organization, become comfortable discussing deliveries, strategy, industry trends and your own thought leadership to an internal and external, public audience.
Leverage Powerful Partnerships: Learn the data ecosystems of CIBC Mellon’s parent organizations, harness existing capabilities that catalyze our own data maturization and work collectively with stakeholders in those companies on our data journey. Build an understanding amongst the data team of the business operations and data operations in both parent organizations.
