Position Description The Ontario Shores is currently seeking a full-time Social Worker, reporting to the Clinical Manager of the Forensic Outpatient service area. The successful candidate will be a Social Worker with sound knowledge of clinical social work in the area of mental health and addiction issues. Responsibilities include: psychosocial assessments; individual, group and family/couple therapy; liaison with community social agencies; active involvement as a member of an interdisciplinary team and discharge coordination and planning.

The position being recruited for is within the Forensics Program, which consists of a total of 138 in-patient beds and serves approximately 120 patients in the Forensic Outpatient Service. The Secure Forensic Service, which consists of 3 units with a total of 62 beds, provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for patients who are ordered by the courts or the Ontario Review Board (ORB) and who require accommodation at a higher security level. The General Forensic Service, which consists of 3 units with a total of 76 beds, provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for patients who are ordered by courts or Ontario Review Board (ORB) and who require accommodation at a lower security level. The Forensic Outpatient Service provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for patients who are ordered by the courts or the Ontario Review Board (ORB) who reside in the community.

Qualifications Required & Preferred

  • An MSW is required.
  • The successful candidate must be registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers in good standing.
  • Current CPR – Level HCP is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery.
  • 3-5 years psychiatric experience in a mental health facility or service is desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the OCSWSSW Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the College.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Mental Health, and relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA is required.
  • An in-depth knowledge and experience of the challenges involved in community reintegration of shorter-stay psychiatric inpatients.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to Implement and model the Recovery philosophy in all aspects of care as a Recovery champion
  • Meditech experience preferred
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical social/mental health work.
  • Thorough knowledge of social work treatment methods applied in mental health settings/community.
  • Demonstrated competence in individual, group and family therapy and crisis intervention skills.
  • Knowledge of concurrent disorders an asset.,
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Review Board process
  • Knowledge of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy is preferred
  • Ability to work in a clinic model within surrounding communities
  • The candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills.
  • The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
  • Variable hours may be required due to patient demand.
