About The Role
Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Project Controls Specialist supports project teams and oversees Project Controls procedures and practices, identifying areas of concern and escalating to upper management where necessary.
The Project Controls Specialist monitors changing operational requirements, industry practices and recognizes projects at risk while assisting with improvement and ensuring adherence to standard control practices. This role will provide support throughout the regional portfolio, including Institutional, Healthcare, Light Industrial, Manufacturing, Transit and Water/Wastewater Projects. As the role spans a growing portfolio of work in the region, it offers an opportunity to grow with the business and become a major SME in Ontario.
As a Project Controls Specialist at Graham, you will:
- Performing/ understanding project cycle according to the company procedures and general project control practices
- Provide support with project startup, ensuring that budgets are setup correctly and will provide meaningful data
- Coordinate and support project teams in cost performance, forecasting preparation and accuracy
- Support and monitor quantity tracking and earned value processes across projects
- Generate reports and dashboards for upper management on project performance
- Review adherence to procedures and look for areas of good and poor performance, escalate accordingly
- Training and support on project management tools and systems
- Transfer learnings from actual project reporting and project setup implementation into the improvement of company guidelines and procedures
- Provide root cause analysis on areas of concern, suggest corrective actions and connect with additional support when required
- Coordinate with change and risk management
- Assist with implementation of complex or large-scale changes to the execution budgets
- Identify cost and profitability trends within projects
- Work with project teams to ensure adoption and proper use of Graham’s project management tools
- Look for opportunities for improvement by leveraging data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for project performance enhancement
- Point of contact for Graham project controls practices and procedures
- Work directly with project teams to develop project specific plans and processes
- Present procedures, KPIs, and plans to project teams, managers, and external clients
- Support projects in Project Controls planning, including setting up budgeting, schedules, document management, etc.
- Solutioning with other groups within Graham for non-typical transactions and scenarios
- Support the ongoing improvement and alignment of our project management tools with policies, procedures, and best practices
Qualifications/Experience:
- Equivalent to completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school, or a university degree; degree in Construction or Engineering is preferred
- Minimum 6 years of experience
- Construction and Project Controls systems experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of current cost control methodologies
- General awareness of auxiliary project management areas (HSE, accounting, quality, purchasing, commercial management)
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Project Controls software
- Proficiency with InEight applications is an asset
- Cost control certifications are an asset (PMP-CAPM, CCP or similar)
- Experience working on transit construction projects is an asset
