Calendar: 12 Month

Salary: $32.06 per hour

Weekly Hours: 40 hours per week

This is a temporary position with an approximate end date of October 2026.

##About the Department

Facilities - Maintenance includes all trade and grounds positions that work in school and administrative sites.

Note:

  • This position is required to work outside in various weather conditions and temperatures and may involve repeated physical movement and exertion.
  • Must provide a current driver’s abstract.

##Position Description

Purpose

Working under the direction of the Grounds Foreman, the purpose of this position is to foster teamwork participating on a work crew to excavate or move earth, perform snow removal, or landscape.

Accountability

The position is accountable for performing all duties in accordance with CBE and legislative safety practices and procedures to ensure own safety as well as the safety of CBE staff and students.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operates dump truck with trailer, and skid steer loader and/or tractor with attachments. Equipment is used to perform snow removal or landscaping tasks. Selects, changes and adjusts attachments as necessary.
  • Performs daily serviceability inspections on assigned unit and equipment, and performs normal operator’s servicing tasks.
  • Ensures safe working procedures and conditions exist at all times. Models appropriate conduct and behaviour for carrying out duties in a student environment and working with school staff.
  • Excavates, prepares sub grades and replaces appropriate material.
  • Performs duties of an Equipment Operator I or II on a temporary or ad hoc basis as required. May perform general labouring duties as assigned.
  • May assume the duties of a Foreman when required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement
  • Two years of related experience
  • TDG and WHMIS certificates
  • High School Diploma preferred

  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to understand written and oral directions
  • Good communication skills
  • Dependability and reliability
  • Time management and organizational skills

**Police Information Clearance:**Applicants new to the Calgary Board of Education WHO ARE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT must complete and pass a police information clearance before employment is confirmed.
