The Role Are you a passionate and experienced healthcare leader ready to make a real difference in the lives of others? The Brenda Strafford Foundation is seeking a dedicated Director of Care to lead our exceptional nursing and clinical staff and ensure the highest standard of care for our residents. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and contribute to the overall mission and success of our foundation.

Position Overview: The Director of Care is responsible for overseeing the delivery of nursing services to residents on a 24-hour basis, ensuring the provision of quality care in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. This position will work closely with the facility's Executive Director, other healthcare professionals, and support staff to manage resources effectively and advocate for the well-being of all residents.

You will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of our foundation, upholding our values of person-centered care, safety, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the nursing & clinical staff to achieve optimal resident outcomes.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and open communication.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure infection control and maintain a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment.
  • Serve as a clinical resource, guiding staff to provide exceptional care.
  • Partner with the Executive Director to manage the nursing department budget and resource allocation.
  • Participate in recruitment and training initiatives to ensure the clinical & nursing staff is well-equipped and supported in their roles.
  • Oversee performance evaluations and manage staff development and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure the accuracy of clinical records and documentation in line with legislative requirements.
  • Work closely with physicians and other healthcare providers to address resident care needs and medical initiatives.
  • Take an active role in quality improvement, including managing clinical indicators and initiating projects to improve care delivery.
  • Lead the nursing team in maintaining high standards of care and upholding the Foundation’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Who We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience in geriatric nursing, with previous supervisory and management experience.
  • Previous Experience in Continuing Care is an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and engage a diverse team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with residents, families, staff, and external partners.
  • Proficiency in using nursing management systems and tools such as RAI MDS 2.0, CAPS, RUGs, and quality improvement indicators.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices, safety standards, and healthcare regulations.
  • A commitment to promoting a culture of safety, ethical practice, and continuous improvement.
