Associate Cost Controller

About the role

Reporting to Head of Finance, the Associate Cost Controller is responsible for financial reporting, budget updates, invoicing, and related activities to support PowerON’s operational programs such as Operations & Maintenance Services, Energy Management Services, etc. This role will support accurate financial tracking of operational activities, timely invoicing, and development of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders. The specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Financial Tracking & Budget Management

  • Work with internal teams to maintain and update operational budgets for O&M and Energy Markets, ensuring alignment with approved funding.
  • Track actual expenditures against budgets; investigate variances and discuss explanations with your supervisor for sharing with management.
  • Support preparation of monthly operational finance dashboards for supervisor review.
  • Prepare, issue, and track customer invoices for operational programs.
  • Review vendor invoices for accuracy against purchase orders, contracts, and service records.
  • Coordinate with procurement and operations teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Process PO revisions and maintain related documentation.
  • Update work breakdown structures (WBS) and milestone tracking for operational activities.
  • Coordinate change order requests and approvals for O&M and Energy Markets activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness for all operational financial transactions.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Assist in developing ad hoc cost summaries, forecasts, and variance analyses to support project operations reporting.
  • Support preparation of financial inputs for corporate reporting and forecasting cycles.
  • Support project reporting with relevant financial data.
  • Support the preparation of PowerON’s forecast and cash requirements.
  • Prepare other metrics, schedules and analysis as requested.

Other

  • Provide assistance during Audits.
  • Other activities to support departmental needs

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education in a Finance, Accounting or Business Administration related field
  • CPA in process is an asset
  • 2+ years of experience in finance/accounting in support of Energy, Engineering and/or Construction Projects.
  • Experience reporting under O&M programs or Project Finance is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics
  • Experience in ERP implementation
  • Excellent excel and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Team player with a client and operations support mentality
