Job Summary
Printing Services is an Ancillary unit that provides cost effective, timely and high-quality print-related services in support of Dalhousie’s teaching, learning and research activities. Reporting to the Manager of Printing Services, the Digital Print Technician is a member of the production team, responsible for producing a wide range of documents in response to client requests.
Key Responsibilities

Process files received in a variety of formats including review and troubleshoot digital files, liaise with clients for modifications as needed, and provide basic desktop publishing services using templates.

Utilize software to prepare files for printing, program jobs, and route to appropriate print device.

Monitor machine operation. Unload print jobs from output trays and route documents to finishing or packaging area. Perform basic equipment maintenance.

Operate bindery and finishing equipment (e.g., folder, cutter, perforator, and drill), ensuring adherence to specifications to produce high quality, finished products.

Complete print installations into various types of hardware and apply and remove cut vinyl (various types of surfaces at locations across the campuses).

Provide counter service and consult with clients via phone or email for order intake and advise on pricing and job specifications; process payments; and other related duties.
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
This position requires considerable physical effort including frequent standing, walking, bending, and the ability to safely lift items weighing up to 55 pounds on a daily basis.
Required Qualifications
-
Post-secondary diploma in Graphic and Print Production plus three to five years’ experience working as part of a team in a print shop environment, including operation of high-speed digital production devices and finishing equipment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).

Demonstrated communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.

Demonstrated ability to multitask, take initiative and prioritize orders to meet deadlines.

Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Adobe Acrobat and InDesign.
Assets

Experience with large format printing and installation into various types of hardware.

Experience with cut vinyl application and removal (various types of surfaces).
