About the role

Recreation Services is responsible for all athletic and wellness facilities on The University of Winnipeg campus which includes the Duckworth Centre and the Axworthy Health and RecPlex.

The Evening and Weekend Facility Supervisor is a full-time continuing position responsible for onsite supervision of recreation facilities and related personnel. This includes coordinating the activities of events assistants, facility attendants, and community attendants, as well as the enforcement of facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the senior person on-site during evening and weekend hours of operation, enforcing facility policies and procedures.
  • Initiates disciplinary action as required when infractions occur or behavioural issues by facility users are encountered, contacting appropriate personnel when needed.
  • Inspects recreation facilities and addresses maintenance issues and contacts appropriate department or service provider to resolve.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance checks of the recreation facilities
  • Checks room setups in the recreation facilities for both special events and for regular programming and usage of the spaces.
  • Monitors the layout of furnishings in the lounge and hallway spaces in the Duckworth Centre and the RecPlex, and arranges for staff to reset as required.
  • Monitors facilities to ensure the safety of all users. Takes appropriate action to eliminate risks or communicates risks to appropriate staff.
  • Liaises with Security Services with respect to problems or potential problems in facilities.
  • Responsible for reconciling daily deposits for facility desk transactions.
  • Serves as front-line relief for short-staffed situations and as a resource to Facility Attendants when required.
  • Provides assistance for Recreation Services events, and League activities.
  • Responsible for racquetball, handball and squash relations and online court bookings.
  • Other related duties and tasks as assigned.

  • During event season some scheduling flexibility may be required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required, undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Four years of directly related work experience, preferably in a recreational facility.
  • Experience supervising staff is required.
  • Experience working with the public is required.
  • At least one year of experience working with community organizations is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, is required.
  • Working knowledge of basic office software (e.g., MS Word).
  • Familiarity with a University environment is preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities of other employees with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions independently.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check and a child abuse registry check, the responsibility for both lies with the applicant.

The salary range for this position will be from $40,677.00 to $56,110.60 annually.
