Location: 'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo School – Kitsumkalum, BC

Reports To: Principal
Position Overview
'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team in a combined role as a Kindergarten to Grade 3/4 Literacy Teacher (.4 F.T.E) and **Grade 3/4 (.6 F.T.E) Classroom Teacher **. This position is ideal for someone who values holistic education and is committed to integrating Tsimshian language and culture into daily teaching practices.
Key Responsibilities
Literacy Kindergarten – Grade 4 (.4 FTE):
- Plan and deliver engaging literacy instruction across multiple grade levels.
- Support students in developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
- Collaborate with staff to implement school-wide literacy initiatives.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
Grade 3/4 Classroom (.6 FTE):
- Teach core subjects including, science, social studies, and art.
- Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Prepared to actively engage in sustained cycles of assessment and intervention around student learning
Cultural Integration:
- Embed Tsimshian language and cultural teachings into all aspects of the curriculum.
- Collaborate with Elders, cultural workers, and community members to enrich student learning.
- Participate in and lead cultural events and ceremonies as part of the school community.
Qualifications
- BC Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification).
- Experience teaching literacy and/or elementary grades.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Tsimshian language and cultural practices.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to Indigenous education and reconciliation.
