About the role

Department Information

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information

The Regional Finance Officer plays a key role in providing financial and administrative support to the Regional Manager, Finance and Administration in the areas of budget planning, development and financial analysis for the Region's, Corporate, Airports, Highways and Road Licensing & Safety programs and services. This position will also provide support in the preparation of tenders and contracts for construction work and also in the preparation of forms and documents for submission to PSS as related to the procurement of goods and services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.

  • Financial planning, budget development and analysis;
  • Financial accounting computer systems and database concepts;
  • Accounting and analytical skills in order to interpret and apply accounting concepts, financial terms of funding agreements and compose historical trend analysis
  • Work in a multi-task environment, organizing time effectively in order to meet deadlines
  • Deal tactfully with people of varying temperaments and cultures as there is frequent contact with many individuals both within and outside the Government.

Typically attained by,

Completion of the 2nd level of a recognized accounting program (CGA, CA or CMA) or equivalent post-secondary education in accounting and/or financial management; and 5- 8 years of varied accounting/budgeting experience in a computerized environment.

Equivalencies may include;

  • Business diploma with a specialization in accounting or finance with 7-10 years of varied accounting/budgeting experience in a computerized environment
  • Grade 12 diploma with 10-15 years of varied accounting/budgeting experience in a computerized environment
