Position: School Retail Services Associate (Contract)

Contract Period: May 2026 to end of January 2027 (Nine-month contract, will the possibility of transition to permanent)

Hours: May to June/September to January – 32 hours per week / July to August – 40 hours per week

Department: Retail Services

Reports To: Head of Retail Services

Hourly Rate: $23 - $25.50 per hour

Start Date: ASAP

Position Overview:

The Retail Services Associate is responsible for supporting the retail sales operation, ensuring seamless and professional experience for the school community. This includes the sale of school uniforms, sports apparel, branded merchandise, school supplies, electronics, and other items. The role requires a high degree of technical fluency to manage all aspects of the retail process, including product coding, stock management, point-of-sale transactions, online sales, and reconciliation, as well as monitoring inventory levels and identifying replenishment needs. The ideal candidate thrives in a structured environment, exercises sound judgment, and maintains professionalism in every interaction, consistently fostering trust and long- term engagement with clients.

At St. George’s, we are committed to sustainability and are taking steps to reduce our footprint by recycling, reusing, and choosing eco-friendly products where possible throughout our retail operations.

This is a nine-month contract position. The core schedule will be Tuesday to Friday, 8am to 4pm , offering a consistent extended weekend. Flexibility is required based on operational needs, and during peak periods (such as the summer months) the schedule will likely transition to Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing sales transactions, returns, and special orders, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Serving customers in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Supporting store operations in alignment with overall objectives, including merchandising and sales initiatives.
  • Performing administrative functions such as tracking, receiving, shipping, inventory monitoring, and maintaining store security.
  • Monitoring inventory levels and communicating replenishment needs to appropriate team members.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and visually consistent retail environment, including adherence to established cleaning and safety protocols.
  • Ensuring merchandise is stored, handled, and displayed in accordance with store policies and procedures.
  • Handling physical tasks such as lifting boxes (up to 50 lbs.), stocking shelves, and occasional ladder use.
  • Contributes to a well-functioning retail environment by supporting a range of operational tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility, initiative, and a team-oriented approach.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication and client relationship skills, demonstrating a professional, composed, and approachable presence.
  • Experience working in a school or similarly structured environment is considered an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Retail Management System, Excel, Word, and online retail platforms.
  • Highly organized, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercising discretion and sound judgment in all interactions.
  • Proven initiative, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while fostering positive, long-term relationships.
  • A solutions-focused, steady, and constructive team contributor who maintains a respectful and productive work environment.
  • Well-developed emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social awareness, and accountability.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to contribute to all aspects of the retail environment, supporting team priorities as they evolve.
