Job Title : Project Accountant – Construction & Real Estate Development
FTE, On-site in the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Area
Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa
Our client is a for-profit real estate development consulting firm that partners with non-profits, Indigenous organizations, and other social purpose groups to deliver impactful projects across British Columbia. Their portfolio includes affordable housing, community facilities, and other meaningful developments that improve the quality of life.
With a team of 25 professionals, they bring deep expertise in development, finance, project management, and asset management, all united by the goal of creating safe, sustainable, and affordable spaces for communities to thrive.
Our client is seeking a junior-to-intermediate Project Accountant with 3–5 years of experience to join their 5-person accounting team. You’ll work closely with Development Managers to support 10 active projects from early planning through construction and closeout.
This position is accounts payable-heavy ; processing invoices, managing claims, and tracking cash flows, but the diversity of projects keeps the work interesting. You’ll play a key role in ensuring each project is delivered on budget, on time, and in compliance with funding requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage project budgets , financial reports, and cash flows.
- Process invoices in line with contracts and budgets.
- Prepare funding claims and submit to funders with all required documentation.
- Update and reconcile monthly cash flows, GST refunds, and funder reports.
- Track change orders, documenting impacts to scope, schedule, and budget.
- Maintain organized, accurate project records and files.
- Support project scheduling and task management for Development Managers.
- Research and resolve accounting inquiries.
- Assist with year-end and CRA audits .
- Coordinate project insurance (quotes, binding, renewals).
- Contribute to improvements in systems, processes, and templates.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of project accounting experience, ideally in construction or real estate development .
- Experience with non-profit projects is an asset.
- Diploma or degree in Accounting; CPA not required (support available if currently pursuing).
- Proficiency with Microsoft GP , Excel, Outlook, Word, and SharePoint.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize.
- Clear and professional communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and customer service mindset.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
