THE ROLE:

The 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. He is responsible, in collaboration with the Superintendent, for the supervision and training of colleagues.

ACTIVITIES:

The duties and responsibilities for the Golf 2nd Assistant include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists in the planning and supervising of the maintenance greens, tees and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment

• Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems

• Instructs staff in the proper washing and storage of equipment and tools upon completion of the day

• Ensures cleanliness of all shop areas on a regular basis

• Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

• Follow all the employment policies and procedures as laid out in the hotel and golf course Employment Handbooks.

• Attend and actively participate in all department and relevant hotel Meetings

COMPETENCIES WE ARE SEEKING:

• Previous leadership experience in Golf Turf required

• Experience and knowledge of irrigation systems required

• Spray license

• Diploma\Certification in Golf Turf or equivalent preferred

• Valid Drivers License required

• Computer literate in Microsoft Window applications an asset

• Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities

• Highly responsible & reliable

• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment

• Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team
