About the role

Purpose: Reporting to the Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation (A&R), The Associate Director, Recreation and Active Wellbeing is part of the Athletics and Recreation's Senior Leadership Team. The role leads the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of all recreational activities across the Keele Campus, Markham Campus, and through collaboration with Glendon Campus. The role actively contributes to the strategic priorities of A&R. The role synergizes the campus Okanagan Charter, Well-being strategy, DEDI framework, the Academic Plan and other frameworks, towards the creation, delivery and renewal of a tri-campus recreation strategy. The role leverages existing structures, resources, and facilities to enhance overall campus engagement through collaboration with key campus partners. The role collaborates with A&R Business Development and Marketing teams to advance external community engagement efforts and drive revenues. The role leads a team of managers and coordinators across both the Keele and Markham campuses.The role requires demonstrated ability to create strategy and to design and implement programs and initiatives that motivate staff in a high-performance culture. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, implement plans, adapt to change, and to anticipate and solve problems.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Kinesiology, Business, Sport Management, etc.
Professional membership in good standing with Parks and Recreation Ontario, NIRSA and or similar associations/networks.Note: Verification of degrees/credentials required.

Experience:

7 years experience in recreational program management administration at a post - secondary institution or comparable environment
5 years management experience.
Experience in staff management, both union and non-union.
Experience with community engagement. strategic planning - fiscal and program. partnership development and creation. leadership and mentorship.

Skills: Knowledge
In-depth knowledge relating to all aspects in management of recreation programs including: Ontario Public Pool Regulation. Occupational Health and Safety Act. Employment Standards Act. industry standards (Lifesaving Society, Ontario Camping Association, High Five, etc.). etc.
Knowledge of best practices and industry trends in the health and wellness industry
Knowledge of recruitment, training, employment standards/labour relations and health and safety policies and procedures.Skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously or within overlapping time frames.
Effective interpersonal skills with an ability to handle criticism and complaints. Ability to deal calmly and effectively with difficult and potentially volatile individuals.
Ability to plan, develop and implement programs.
Effective communication and writing skills, communicating effectively orally Effective evaluative and analytical skills with an ability to exercise sound judgement.
Effective organizational and scheduling skills.
Ability to take initiative.
Ability to devise, implement and monitor service delivery systems and/or frameworks.
Effective budgeting skills.
Proficiency with Office 365 applications.

Additional Notes:

Normal office work environment.
Occasional travel to Glendon and Markham campuses, meetings, conferences, and events.
Occasional work outdoors to attend events, complete walk throughs of outdoor facilities.

-Compensation:

York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
