The Portfolio Advisory Team (“PAT”) at BMO Private Wealth provides independent and objective investment advice to the 1000 investment advisors across Canada at BMO Private Wealth who collectively are responsible for managing nearly $300 billion in AUM. The Equity group within the PAT provides advice to advisors and their teams on individual North American equities. The group collaborates closely with partners at BMO Capital Markets and BMO Global Asset Management, while using external third-party research and performing its own due diligence and analysis to guide advisors to ensure client portfolios can deliver on required outcomes.
The Senior Portfolio Advisor within the Equity team will be focused on three broad categories: Servicing Advisors, Thought Leadership, and Portfolio Management.
Servicing advisors:
- Contribute to the scalable daily service operation/offering of the team (ie. morning call, morning and afternoon note, etc).
- Service advisors one on one: portfolio and model reviews, thoughts on individual stocks, sector positioning, etc.
- Make recommendations to investment advisors and their teams on individual North American stocks.
- Visit branches across the country and deliver branch and client presentations on relevant macro topics while presenting views on sectors and relevant stocks
- Act as a primary subject matter expert on North American stocks
Thought leadership:
- Generate impactful content on a frequent basis for advisors and their teams: original, thought provoking, actionable, concise and clear, engaging, and highly relevant.
- Content can be take on various forms: presentations, morning calls, podcasts, and written.
Portfolio management:
- Key member of investment committee responsible for the management of five guided portfolios (concentrated stock portfolios that form a key building block for advisors)
- Conducts independent analysis and assessment to contribute to team discussions on portfolios, positions, opportunities and risks.
- High engagement level in investment committee discussions
- A role model who sets an example of how to foster dialogue and respectful debate among the team to hear all perspectives and ultimately make the best decisions for the models
Other responsibilities for the Senior Portfolio Advisor often include:
- Deep knowledge of business & strategic priorities – ability to understand and align with the priorities and what matters for the business, our advisors, and our clients
- Leadership qualities – a role model who sets an example on work effort, behaviours, business and investment understanding
- Sought after for client engagements – the individual may increasingly be in demand given their communication skills to engage with clients and ultra high net worth prospects/clients to discuss the firm’s investment resources and provides thoughts on the economic and market backdrop
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of relevant experience in equity research, sales and trading, and/or portfolio management.
- Advanced understanding of the equity markets, particularly in North America.
- Exceptional communication skills – verbal and writing.
- In-depth / Expert analytical and interpretive skills; capable of sourcing and identifying pertinent factors from large volumes of information.
- In-depth organizational skills; strong attention to detail and risk.
- Analytical and problem solving skills - In-depth / Expert.
- Influence skills - In-depth / Expert.
- Able to manage ambiguity.
- Data driven decision making - In-depth / Expert.
- Experienced in presenting to large audiences and/or dealing with sophisticated investors.
- Combination of being a self-starter with entrepreneurial/growth mindset while also being able to collaborate within the team.
- Some knowledge of wealth management industry and/or dealing with investment advisors and their teams.
- Post-secondary degree in related field of study or a CFA designation.
Salary:
$120,400.00 - $224,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
